Today in 1989, Into the Woods closed at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre), where it ran for 765 performances. Into the Woods is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine. It debuted in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986, and premiered on Broadway in 1987. Into the Woods won several Tony Awards, including Best Score, Best Book, and Best Actress in a Musical (Joanna Gleason), in a year dominated by The Phantom of the Opera. (more...)

Omaha Performing Arts has opened registration for the third year of the Nebraska High School Theatre Awards program. The educational program will expand to include high schools within 150 miles of the Holland Performing Arts Center for the 2015/2016 school year. The Nebraska High School Theatre Awards are designed to celebrate, support and advocate for high school theatre education. Culminating in a Tony Awards-inspired showcase, the program offers free Broadway master classes and workshops, feedback from performing arts professionals, tickets to touring Broadway shows when available, performance and audition experiences, distance learning opportunities and more to over 3,500 students annually. Schon in Edmond Rostands romantisch-komodiantischem Versdrama Cyrano de Bergerac aus dem Jahr 1897 verbanden sich das Musketier-Sujet und das Thema der Überwindung von Komplexen als notwendige Zutat fur die große Liebe zu einer aktionsgeladenen und zugleich beruhrenden Geschichte voll Esprit und Poesie. In der Musicalfassung der hollandischen Autoren Koen und Ad van Dijk aus dem Jahr 1992 gelangte diese Geschichte mit Musik im Stil von Claude-Michel Schonbergs Les Miserables und Anklangen an Andrew Lloyd Webbers Phantom der Oper erfolgreich an den Broadway. Nun erobert dieses Musical uber vermeintliche Helden und einen großen Poeten, ihre Komplexe und Versagensangste die Bielefelder Stadttheaterbuhne. Die Premiere findet am 6. This year, the troupe will bring an incredible lineup of quality shows, such as "The Phantom of the Opera," at prices the entire family can enjoy. Tickets are available for $18 for all Pease Auditorium productions and $18 and $20 for performances in the Halton Theater, with tickets for children under the age of 15 available for $10. The Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE Phantom OF THE OPERA, directed by Harold Prince, will soon welcome new cast members. Rachel Zatcoff will make her Broadway debut as the Christine alternate, beginning September 2. She will perform on Monday evenings and Saturday matinees.
