Lance Horne is developing new music based on acclaimed author Neil Gaiman's love poems to his wife, Amanda Palmer, is working on a top-secret project with Scissor Sisters' Jake Shears and continues to work with his 'musical husband,' Alan Cumming. And, if all of that weren't enough, the Emmy-winning composer (ONE LIFE TO LIVE), lyricist and performer has also returned to Joe's Pub for the 2016-2017 season. Having performed at the venue since it first opened its doors in 1998, Horne is currently undertaking a four-part residency of new material---aptly titled NEW WORK, NEW WORK---for which he's been joined by many of his famous friends. Ahead of the residency's penultimate installment, NEW WORK NEW WORK 3, on April 12 at 7pm, we spoke with Horne by phone about his innumerable collaborators, his history with Joe's and the stars he's still working on teaming up with. New York based trumpeter and composer Glenn Makos' newest release - 'The Michel Legrand Project' - with his quartet reimagines the music of Michel Legrand as Legrand celebrates his 85th birthday in 2017. The genesis of the project was the result of a kitchen renovation. 'With all of the construction noise in my house, I had a difficult time writing for seventeen people what was then my current project composing for big band. I've always admired Legrand's music and one morning last summer, I woke up and heard his music in my head. It was a quartet, ironically, without a piano, sort of like Ornette meets Legrand.' Schimmel Center presents NYTB's UPTOWN/DOWNTOWN/DANCE

The Uptown/Downtown/Dance program will include an as-yet-untitled World Premiere from Martin Lawrance and the World Premiere of Painted Within by Zhong-Jing Fang, as well as a restaging of former NYTB resident choreographer Edward Henkel's ReVision, created in 1986, with music by Edvard Grieg, Holberg Suite op. 40 (1884). A 2013 NYTB commission, Short Memory by Pam Tanowitz, is set to live music by Lou Harrison and Henry Cowell and helps set up Ms. Tanowitz's brilliant use of stage space. The evenings include two more pieces by Ms. Tanowtiz: Light Moving, set to music by David Lang, and Double Andante, a 13-minute ballet for ten dancers set to the Andante movement of Beethoven's Sonata in D Major #15, which will be played live on piano two times at different tempos.
