Bootless Stageworks to Bring Hilarious Twist on Hitchcock to the Wilmington Stage

These are just a few of the more than 150 characters that will take the stage in Bootless Stageworks' upcoming production of The 39 Steps. It took Lucie Arnaz her entire professional life to get booked for a solo nightclub/cabaret show at the Cafe Carlyle. It turned out to be worth the wait-for herself and her audiences-and her weeklong run at the stylish club (that began on April 13 and ends with shows tonight at 8:45 and 10:45) would no doubt have made her famous parents--Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz--beam with pride. Lucy might have erupted into a joyful crying jag, while Desi would have kvelled in his signature rapid-fired Spanish because when it comes to her performance on a cabaret stage, Lucie Arnaz doesn't 'got some 'splaining to do.' Sounds Forced to Cancel Production of LES MISERABLES

Sounds' mission is to create family friendly theatre. Origianlly, they were planning on producing a run of Les Miserables for their summer musical. They were working with the licensing agent to try and remove all offensive material in order to make it family friendly. However, according to Local News 8, the show has been canceled. (more...)

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) along with Chicago's civic and cultural leaders celebrate William Shakespeare's 450th Birthday with the premiere of 'Our City, Our Shakespeare,' a documentary exploring Shakespeare's enduring presence in Chicago, featuring Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Art Institute of Chicago, Joffrey Ballet, among others. Produced by Emmy award-winning HMS Media, the program premieres May 1 at 8:00 p.m. on WTTW Channel 11. Shakespeare's 450th birthday on April 23 begins the internationally recognized Shakespeare Quadricentennial Celebration through 2016, marking 400 years of Shakespeare's legacy since his death in 1616. Film Society of Lincoln Center Announces Details for 'Fassbinder: Romantic Anarchist'

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today the details for Fassbinder: Romantic Anarchist (Part 1), May 16 – June 1. Divided into two parts, the retrospective will be the most extensive presentation of Fassbinder's films in New York since 1997, with Part 1 including almost all of his work leading up to 1974 and Part 2 (screening in November) to pick up from 1974 through 1982. The ambitious two-part series will include all of his theatrical features, much of his television work, films he starred in, films that influenced him, and films that were influenced by his work. The Mexican Museum announces a new exhibition that is sure to tantalize the culinary senses of museum visitors. Opening at The Mexican Museum on Friday, May 16, La Cocina: The Culinary Treasures of Rosa Covarrubias will feature vintage photographs and an extraordinary array of Rosa's personal ceramics and cooking utensils from "la cocina" - which means "kitchen" in Spanish. Dating to the mid-20th century, these objects come from Rosa and Miguel Covarrubias' immense collection of over 2,500 paintings, ceramics, folk art, and personal photos. This incredible collection was gifted to The Mexican Museum by Adriana and Tom Williams. (more...)
