Cherry Lane Begins 90th Season with Lisa Ramirez's TO THE BONE Tonight

The legendary Cherry Lane Theatre - which this year will celebrate its 90th anniversary as one of the nation's most revered institutions for its commitment to producing new works for the stage - will begin its 90th season with the world-premiere of Lisa Ramirez's play TO THE BONE directed by Lisa Peterson, set to commence previews tonight, September 9 prior to an official opening night September 17 at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St. in Greenwich Village), it has been announced by Angelina Fiordellisi, the company's Founding Artistic Director. Bilingual Play THE LONG ROAD/EL LARGO CAMINO DE HOY Opens 9/19

Two years ago, with funding from The James Irvine Foundation and in partnership with Latino Health Access, South Coast Repertory launched a play-development project in Santa Ana called Dialogue/Diálogos. The project captured the stories and memories of nearly 1,000 of the city's Latino residents, which created the core of a new bilingual play, The Long Road Today/El Largo Camino de Hoy,written by José Cruz González. These multi-genre concerts-entitled hero, spirit, love/loss, travel, (post)folk, and memoir-showcase different modes of storytelling across a wide variety of music, from medieval Beowulf to conceptual John Cage, and include world premieres of new music by Lang, Kate Moore, and Kaki King, all commissioned by Carnegie Hall. After suffering a major loss while he was on a cross-country bike trip, 21 year-old Leo seeks solace from his feisty 91 year-old grandmother Vera in her West Village apartment in New York City. Sarah and James, a photographer and a journalist, share a passion for the adrenaline rush that comes from reporting stories in the world's deadliest war zones. When the realities of combat become too much for James, a rift begins to form between them. After Sarah is wounded in a bomb blast in Iraq, she is forced to return home to James and the safety, and comparative boredom, of New York.
