This year the season, dubbed "The Language of Love," will include the Edmond Rostand classic Cyrano de Bergerac, adapted by Gabriel Barre, Rick Sordelet and Alexander Sovronsky, directed by Gabriel Barre, in rep with the World Premiere of the Cyrano-inspired play Burning by Ginger Lazarus, directed by Eric Parness. Commissioned by Playwrights Horizons and directed by Obie Award winner Anne Kauffman (Detroit, Maple and Vine, Your Mother's Copy of the Kama Sutra at PH; Belleville; This Wide Night; The Thugs), the play is the third production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season. The first preview is tonight, November 20 at 8PM at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The Hangar Theatre is pleased to announce that Michael Barakiva has accepted the position of Interim Artistic Director. He will lead Hangar artistic programming through the summer of 2016. Michael is joining the Hangar staff immediately, and has already begun working with outgoing Artistic Director, Jen Waldman, to ensure a smooth transition. Michael returns to the Hangar after working with the organization as a Drama League Director in 2001 and as a director for Hangar School Tours in 2003. Since then he has worked as a freelance director Off-Broadway and at numerous regional theatres, including Syracuse Stage, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, Primary Stages, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Playwrights Horizons presents the New York premiere of 2015 Pulitzer Prize finalist Marjorie Prime, a new play by Jordan Harrison (Maple and Vine, Doris to Darlene at PH; Amazons and Their Men; Kid-Simple; 'Orange is the New Black'). Commissioned by Playwrights Horizons and directed by Obie Award winner Anne Kauffman (Detroit, Maple and Vine, Your Mother's Copy of the Kama Sutra at PH; Belleville; This Wide Night; The Thugs), the play is the third production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season. The production opens tonight, December 14, at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street), and will play a limited engagement through Sunday, January 3. (more...)

Next up on the Main Stage, The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey will present the New Jersey premiere of Bill Cain's Equivocation. When the Bard and his troupe of players receive a royal commission to dramatize the events surrounding the infamous Gunpowder Plot, the artist must confront the demons of his past, his present, and his obligations to the truth and artistic integrity. Equivocation was described in Variety as "one of the most bracingly intelligent, sizzlingly theatrical American plays in a decade."
