THE LAST 5 YEARS, Richard LaGravenese's (BEHIND THE CANDELABRA) big screen adaptation of the 2002 Off-Broadway musical by Tony Award winning composer and lyricist Jason Robert Brown, just premiered yesterday at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, and Broadway favorite Jeremy Jordan was there for the big event. Jordan, who is currently starring in the Broadway-bound production of FINDING NEVERLAND at the American Repertory Theatre, made the trek from Boston to Toronto after yesterday's matinee to attend the premiere, according to Deadline. He will return to the A.R.T. in time for Tuesday night's performance. (more...)

According to the New York Times, despite the legendary comedienne's stage credits, the lights of Broadway will not dim in memory of Joan Rivers. Broadway League executive director Charlotte St. Martin told NYT: "Under our criteria people need to have been very active recently in the theater, or else be synonymous with Broadway - people who made their careers here, or kept it up.' Paper Mill Playhouse will open its 2014-2015 season with a Broadway-bound, world-class revival of Can-Can starring Kate Baldwin as Pistache and Jason Danieley as Aristide. This fresh new production features direction by David Lee (Frasier, Cheers) and choreography by Patti Colombo (Paper Mill's Peter Pan, On the Town, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers). The show features a book by Abe Burrows (Guys and Dolls, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying) and a re-crafted script by Joel Fields (Ugly Betty, The Americans) andDavid Lee. Can-Can's score features some of Cole Porter's timeless classics including 'I Love Paris,' 'C'est Magnifique,' 'It's All Right With Me' and more. Paper Mill Playhouse is launching this Broadway-bound production of Cole Porter's classic musical with producing partner Jonathan Burrows. Can-Can will play the Millburn, New Jersey, theater from October 1 through October 26, 2014. Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Releases Statement on the Death of Joan Rivers

BroadwayWorld was saddened to report the death of legendary comedienne Joan Rivers, who had undergone a procedure on her vocal cords last Thursday, when she stopped breathing. Rivers was taken to Mount Sinai hospital in New York City, and later put into a medically induced coma and put on life support. She was 81. Now, the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce has released a statement on the star's death. (more...)

Breaking News: Legendary Comedian Joan Rivers Dies at 81

We are sad to report the news that Joan Rivers died at 1:17pm this afternoon, at 81 years old. Rivers was undergoing a procedure on her vocal cords last Thursday, during which she stopped breathing. She was quickly rushed to Mount Sinai hospital in New York City, where she was admitted in critical condition, and later upgraded to stable as she was put into a medically induced coma and put on life support. MCC THEATER has announced that the world premiere of MCC Playwright-in-Residence Neil LaBute's new play, The Money Shot, directed by Terry Kinney, has been extended due to popular demand now through October 19, 2014. The production was originally scheduled to close on October 12, 2014. The Money Shot stars Emmy Award nominee Elizabeth Reaser, Golden Globe nominee Callie Thorne, Frederick Weller and Gia Crovatin. Reports this weekend have confirmed that there has been no progress for Joan Rivers, who is said to still be in a medically induced coma and fully dependent on life support machines. While Mt. Sinai hospital has not issued any updates on the legendary comedian's status, daughter Melissa did issue a Sunday statement that 'Thank you for your continued love and support. Sources close to the star say that her life is completely dependent on machines at the moment, and in a few days, her family will be faced with the decision of whether or not to keep her on the life support.
