The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for Murder for Two, with book and music by Joe Kinosian and book and lyrics by Kellen Blair. Globe veteran Scott Schwartz (A Room with a View at the Globe, The Hunchback of Notre Dame at La Jolla Playhouse) returns to direct Blair and Kinosian's Off Broadway hit, a vaudevillian mystery musical with an energetic two-man cast. Murder for Two will run January 24 - March 1 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. (more...)

The producers of Peter Morgan's Broadway-bound The Audience, starring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren and directed by Stephen Daldry, announced today that two additional previews have been added to the limited engagement at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street) which will now begin performances on February 14. As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the new American play, Hand to God, will open on Broadway on April 7, 2015 at the Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street), marking the Broadway debut of playwright Robert Askins. McCollum's three years of development on this play include its previous acclaimed productions at the Ensemble Studio Theatre (EST) in 2011 and its more recent Off-Broadway debut at MCC Theater in 2014. Hand to God will again be directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel in his Broadway debut with previews beginning at the Booth Theatre on March 12, 2015 ahead of the April 7th opening. On the heels of the 16-time Grammy Award winner's sold-out, standing-room-only debut performance on Tuesday night, December 9, Sting's engagement in The Last Ship on Broadway has been extended through January 24, 2015, the musical's producers Jeffrey Seller and Kathryn Schenker announced. Originally scheduled to perform with the cast for five weeks, Sting will now appear for an additional two weeks in the role of Jackie White in The Last Ship at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W. 52 St.). very few playwrights have the acute sense of American place you find in D'Amour's beautiful writing. Especially toward the end, 'Airline Highway' is a worthy follow-up to the similarly adroit 'Detroit,' a Pulitzer Prize finalist about another great city ridden and then mostly abandoned by the country at large. These are both moralistic plays (with similar codas) suggesting we pay more attention to the beautiful urban gardens between sea and shining sea, very much dimmed by human tears. (more...)

Steppenwolf Theatre Company continues its 2014/15 Subscription season with the world premiere production ofAirline Highway, written by Lisa D'Amour (Detroit, Cherokee) and directed by Joe Mantello (Take Me Out, Assassins, Wicked). Steppenwolf's production will be presented by Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) at their Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Broadway in Spring 2015. Airline Highway began previews December 4, 2014 (Opening night is December 14, 2014; Press performances are December 13 at 3pm and December 16 at 7:30pm) and continues through February 8, 2015 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St).
