Tony Award-winning director, Ivo Van Hove, will direct a new stage adaptation of Stephen King's horror classic, The Shining!

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that stage and screen actor Orson Bean has died at age 91. According to The New York Times, his cause of death was a 'traffic accident' in Venice, CA. Capt. Brian Wendling of the Los Angeles Police Department said that Bean was struck and killed by a car on Friday while crossing the street.

The Susan Smith Blackburn Prize has announced 10 Finalists for its prestigious playwriting award, the oldest and largest prize awarded to women playwrights.

The season includes the return of the Broadway blockbuster, Disney's THE LION KING (July 15a?'August 9, 2020); the pre-Broadway engagement of 1776 (September 29a?'October 4, 2020), directed by Tony Awarda?'winner Diane Paulus; the Tony and Grammy Award­a?'winning pop culture phenomenon, DEAR EVAN HANSEN (November 10a?'29, 2020); the romantic and adventurea?'filled musical, ANASTASIA (January 26a?'31, 2021); the Bay Area premiere of the hit musical comedy, TOOTSIE (March 23a?'28, 2021); and the delectable Roald Dahl's CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (May 4a?'9, 2021).

Director Ivo van Hove is set to work on a stage adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining, according to Forbes. Simon Stephens has been working on the script and it is believed that the play will premiere in London's West End before heading to Broadway.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. Segerstrom Center for the Arts is excitingly welcoming the return of the Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg with the West Coast Premiere of The Pygmalion Effect May 24-26, 2019 A new ballet from the company's award-winning artistic director and choreographer, Boris Eifman, The Pygmalion Effect is inspired by the Greek mythological tale of Pygmalion - a sculptor who became infatuated with his own life-like carving of a beautiful girl. Renowned for works that are 'bold, psychological and highly theatrical' (The New York Times), Boris Eifman infuses his signature choreographic style into this dynamic new production, set to a score by 'The Waltz King' Johann Strauss II. The Pygmalion Effect received its world premiere in St. Petersburg's Alexandrinsky Theatre on February 6, 2019. This new production marks choreographer Boris Eifman's return to the genre of comedy or, more accurately, tragicomedy; a form which the choreographer has perfected. Eifman offers the audience a balletic interpretation of the archetypical story of Pygmalion. In the ballet the protagonist is a successful ballroom dancer who transforms a clumsy girl into a virtuoso performer. In this production, Eifman presents a comprehensive artistic and philosophical portrayal of a human personality's remarkable flexibility and ability to adjust in response to set aims and aspirations. The title is a reference to a well-known physiological phenomenon whereby a person's performance is positively influenced by the expectations of others.

Live Arts at the Morris Museum, a bold new performance series, introduces cultural climate change to Morris County's Morris Museum in historic Morristown, New Jersey. Innovative artists from around the world and around the area will dominate the season with world and regional premieres of the most interesting new work being created in music, dance and theater. Live Arts at the Morris Museum is the brainchild of the new Curatorial Director of Live Arts, Brett Wellman Messenger who comes to The Morris Museum by way of The Santa Fe Opera and Peak Performances.

Today, D23, the official Disney fan club, has announced the eleven recipients for the 2019 Disney Legends Award. This year's recipients are Bette Midler, Wing Chao, Robert Downey Jr., Jon Favreau, James Earl Jones, Kenny Ortega, Barnette Ricci, Robin Roberts, Diane Sawyer, Ming-Na Wen, and Hans Zimmer. 

John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues and recent inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame--is bringing his '10,000 Light Years' solo concert to the 'Rock & Romance' Cruise, out of Miami, Feb 15 - 22, 2020. This is a unique opportunity to see JOHN perform his Moody Blues' hits, and some of his solo work, plus a few special treats. 'A willingness to experiment with music has been an essential component in the longevity of artists such as Lodge,' noted The Express in the UK in a 4/17/19 review of his Cadogan Hall in London.
