Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston will present a tribute to the genius of Rodgers & Hammerstein with A Grand Night for Singing, October 4-5, 2014 at the Robinson Theater (617 Lexington St, Waltham, MA, 02452). From "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" to "Some Enchanted Evening," A Grand Night for Singing is an intimate Broadway revue featuring over 30 of Rodgers and Hammerstein's greatest hits. A six-piece, on-stage orchestra will accompany a stellar five-member cast through classics from shows such as Carousel, Oklahoma!, The King and I, South Pacific and more. A Grand Night for Singing will run Saturday, Oct 4th at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm, and Sunday, October 5 at 2 pm. Tickets for A Grand Night for Singing at Reagle Music Theatre range from $35 to $63. The romantic and richly textured tale of East versus West, The King and I, comes to The Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire, IL., previewing October 22, opening October 29, and running through January 4, 2015. Nick Bowling (Juno and The Normal Heart at Timeline Theatre) makes his Marriott Theatre directorial debut with a fresh take on this Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, merging history and romance with today's social and political issues. The King and I takes audiences on an uplifting journey of the power of education as characters transform from instructor to students themselves, learning from one another in the process. In consultation with the Thai Cultural and Fine Arts Institute of Chicago, Bowling and Choreographer Tommy Rapley will explore ancient Siamese customs, dance and traditions, and bring them to life on stage. Before Thursday's opening night, Opera Australia and John Frost's revival of the Rodger and Hammerstein classic musical The King and I was already a resounding success following positive reviews during it's run in Melbourne, impressive advanced ticket sales and a Helpmann Award for Best Musical. It was as a result of this hype that I entered the Opera House full of high expectations and ready, no, expecting to be entertained. I was not disappointed. (more...)

Charlie Pollock and Mary Kate Morrissey to Star in Signature Theatre's ELMER GANTRY This Fall

Signature Theatre has announced the cast of Elmer Gantry, a musical version of Sinclair Lewis' best-selling novel, directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Follies, Million Dollar Quartet). Schaeffer collaborated on the last production of Elmer Gantry at Marriott's Lincolnshire Theatre in Chicago with authors John Bishop (book), Mel Marvin (music) and Bob Satuloff (lyrics) in 1998; the show has not been produced since then. This will be the 5th production in the show's history. Running in the MAX Theatre October 7 - November 9, Signature's production will include several brand new songs by Mel Marvin and Bob Satuloff and a reimagined script that John Bishop worked on until his death in 2006. This exploration of the human foibles, comic frustrations and eccentricities of ordinary people will be read by Randall Duk Kim and Anne Occhiogrosso.
