A true theatrical event, this legendary masterpiece is considered by many to be the greatest musical ever created.brbrThe time is 1971, and theatrical impresario Dimitri Weissmann (famous for his garish Weissmann Follies of yesteryear) hosts a reunion of ex-Follies performers in his crumbling theatre, setting the stage for a parade of brilliant '20s, '30s and '40s pastiche numbers that have become every bit as famous as their models: "Losing My Mind," "I'm Still Here" and "Broadway Baby," to name a few. Amid the reminiscing, two middle-aged couples confront some unpleasant truths about their past and present and come face to face with the future.brbrSurreal, sophisticated, compelling, heart-wrenching and epic in scope, "Follies" uses the musical theatre as a metaphor for the collapse of American innocence and naivete in the post-Kennedy years. It is a showcase for powerful dramatic actors, featuring a large cast rich in character, which provides opportunities for seasoned older performers.

On the Cusp Productions Presents REFLECTIONS OF A CAUSE as Part of Sydney Fringe
by BWW News Desk - Aug 7, 2016

How important are the decisions we make in our youth and what impact do they have on our future? If you can't find the answers to reality's questions in life look to some naturalist theatre.  REFLECTIONS OF A CAUSE is the second theatre show written by ambitious and insightful Sydney playwright Sage Godrei. Through a fractured narrative the story follows the lives of Johan and Ellie who meet as 14 year old teenagers in their home town Yackadandah. Using the fly on the wall technique the audience jumps between pivotal moments in their lives as a playful, young 14 year old couple in 1994 and as a seasoned 35 year old married couple in 2015. Sage Godrei pulls out the microscope to investigate whether life's obstacles will take a toll on Ellie and Johan's relationship, although they have been together since they were 14. REFLECTIONS OF A CAUSE questions Free Will, and the formal causes that effect our decision making processes such as family upbringing and cultural influences. The audience are offered the ability to be part of intimate moments in Ellie's and Johan's life through this experimental narrative structure. Human Follies of broken dreams, substance abuse and the need to feel in control of the unknown are put under the lens.  (more...)

BWW Review: Lamplighters' NEW MIKADO is Excellence Itself
by Harmony Wheeler - Aug 16, 2016

There has been plenty of talk about the "lack of sensitivity" in Gilbert and Sullivan's British farce, "The Mikado," set in a Japan most often comprised of a white ensemble. But - as ready as this critic may be to defend the "great and virtuous man" - this review must sing the praises of a "new," albeit familiar Mikado, or rather, Ducato. Lamplighters Music Theatre has reset the operetta to Tiramisu, Milan, and what an excellent production it is. The music and story are as enjoyable as ever, but half the fun comes from discovery of reinvented names and slight references to the original.  Not to mention Ellen Brook's fresh direction of a show that Lamplights has produced - with equal excellence - multiple times.  (more...)
