Diversionary Theatre's Clark Cabaret & Bar launches the new year with its nightly queer-themed, mostly-free entertainment, Wednesday through Monday.  The Clark Cabaret is an intimate space inside Diversionary Theatre in University Heights, San Diego, that includes a stage, a large patio, and a full bar and hosts local performing artists nearly every night of the week.

Actor/comedian Frank Ferrante returns to his internationally heralded stage performance for one night only in FRANK FERRANTE’S GROUCHO on Tuesday, November 22 at 7:00 p.m. at  Cabaret ZaZou, located on the 14th floor of the Cambria Hotel Chicago Loop (32 W. Randolph Street). 

Diversionary Theatre celebrates the first birthday of their newest space, the Clark Cabaret & Bar, with a special birthday event on October 30, culminating a month of special engagements and returning artists nightly. HalloQUEEN on October 30 at 7:00 PM celebrates the Clark Cabaret & Bar's one-year birthday with Halloween-themed activities and a full night of artists who have helped pioneer the queer-themed entertainment hosted by the cabaret six nights a week since October 2021.

Diversionary Theatre has announced its Clark Cabaret & Bar's September 2022 event calendar featuring free, queer-themed entertainment in an intimate space that includes a stage, a large patio, and a full bar in the heart of University Heights.

Highlights include musical performances by regular favorites Ria Carey and Aaron Turner, Kenny Ard, Don LeMaster, and the Sue Palmer Quartet.  August also features musical acts new to the Clark Cabaret, including soul and R&B artist Kori Gillis, the Janice Edwards Trio playing American standards, jazz and soul, and acoustic covers by Nalini Koch.

Chicago Shakespeare Theater will join with arts partners in Austin, Chinatown, Englewood, Little Village, West Town/Ukrainian Village, and West Pullman to present this summer’s Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks event—ShakesFest: A Chicago Shakespeare Community Cabaret.

It took longer to read the notes for Joan Tower’s “Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, No. 1” than it did for the New York Philharmonic under Jaap van Zweden to kick off the first program in its current concert series, “Authentic Selves: The Beauty Within”. But it was a fitting opening for the evening, which featured countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo (the Phil's current James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence) and cabaret diva Justin Vivian Bond--not only exciting in the piece itself but for what lay ahead in the evening.

The very in-demand cabaret artist Sharon McNight will bring her strong vocals and hysterically outrageous irreverence to Feinstein’s At Vitello’s December 9th in SHARON McNIGHT: BETWEEN HOLIDAZE, with musical direction from John Boswell.

The Broadway World Cabaret Award winner for Best Spoken Word show is back with a new format that is working for hostess Leola... and she is working for it, too.

Diversionary Theatre has announced their Season 36 lineup of new LGBTQ work. With 4 new works on The Robert L. Granat and Albert J. Mazur Mainstage exploring how our LGBTQ family defines home, Diversionary welcomes the community back to their newly renovated theatre home, and their new social and performance venue The Austin & Joann Clark Cabaret. 

New Conservatory Theatre Center will celebrate 40 years of serving the Bay Area LGBTQ+ community, and its long-awaited return to live performances with a captivating 21-22 Season of two World Premieres, one Rolling World Premiere, one Regional Premiere, two West Coast Premieres, and a special musical celebration waiting in the wings. 

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that stage and screen star Peg Murray, who won a Tony Award for her performance in the original cast of Cabaret, passed away last week. She was 96 years old.
