Oscar was selected to play the role of Joe following the open auditions held to cast the three young friends of the central character, Gar Private, played by Alex Murphy.

In assuming the title role, Chicago favorite Kate Fry returns to the Goodman, following her recent appearance in Falls' production of The Winter's Tale.
