City Lit Producer and Artistic Director Terry McCabe announced that the theatre’s 2023-2024 season—its forty-third—will be his last on its staff. 

Former Orlando theater and opera mainstay Frank McClain, who left Orlando in 2012 to assume the role of Managing Director of Opera Tampa and who then relocated to Dubuque, Iowa (2015) to become the Executive and Artistic Director of the Grand Opera House, will return to Orlando this summer to direct Stephen Lewis and Michael Wanzie in the Wanzie Presents production of Mass Appeal – opening on Friday, July 14th, 2023 for a limited 3-performance run.

This summer, Chicago will be first to experience a reimagined production of The Who's Tommy when the original creators reunite at Goodman Theatre. Tony Award winners Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff, nearly 30 years after their epic pop-culture musical theater sensation first bowed on Broadway, have reconvened to tell the story of Tommy Walker for 2023 audiences.

From April 27 to May 14, Theater for the New City will present an innovative August Strindberg Rep production of Strindberg's 'Creditors.' The 1888 drama will be updated to modern Long Island in this adaptation, which is newly translated and directed by Robert Greer.

As part of its centennial celebrations, San Francisco Opera released the first installment of Streaming the First Century.

Director/translator Robert Greer will set Ibsen's 'Hedda Gabler' in 1981 Norway for the world premiere of his modern translation of the play, which will be presented by Theater for the New City September 23 to October 9.

CRIMES OF THE HEART, the 1981 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama and a Tony nominee for best play, is currently playing at Desert Rose Playhouse. The production is well-directed and well-acted, and the play itself is absorbing, with both shallow and deep moments. Desert Rose’s take on Beth Henley’s play is very much worth seeing.
