To start the night, Daniel Quadrino, from Broadway's Wicked and Newsies, sang 'Imagine' to reflect on the tragedy that happened in Orlando. He was joined onstage by members of the New York community, to echo the sentiment that New York stands behind Orlando and that art can be used to inspire and change minds. BWW Review: OYE MI CANTO a Thrilling Show for GMCLA

GMCLA never disappoints. Their summer concert Oye Mi Canto, which took place at the Alex Theatre Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26 featured the small Gay Men's Chorus of Cuba Mano a Mano whose singing skill and artistry blew the roof off the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Combined with GMCLA, the Latin sounds were rhythmic to the point of heart-pounding and oh so moving in every way. This is the first time the five men chorus have performed outside of Cuba on tour, and their very presence with GMCLA shows the mission of Gay Men's Choruses everywhere to come together in unity to champion the causes of gay men worldwide, especially in light of the horrific Orlando, Florida massacre two weeks ago. South Shore Theater Company Names New Executive Director & Artistic Director

THE BAY COLONY SHAKESPEARE COMPANY, the fastest-growing professional theatre company on the South Shore of Boston, today announced the appointment of Eric Joseph, 56, to the position of President and Executive Director. Mr. Joseph joins the BCSC after returning from New York City as the Senior Vice President of Sponsorship and Marketing for Clear Channel Entertainment and Broadway Across America, where he was responsible for securing and overseeing sponsorship and marketing extensions of Clear Channel's Broadway investments and subsequent tours in over 50 markets. Mr. Joseph, a Marshfield resident raised in Cohasset, MA, will assume responsibility for the funding and administration of the BCSC immediately and takes the reins from retiring Founder and Artistic Director, Neil McGarry, who is departing the area with his family. Mr. McGarry will return to perform his one-man version of "A Christmas Carol" over the 2016 holidays and continue to work as an actor with the BCSC when in the area. (more...)

Mirirai Sithole Awarded Classic Stage Company's Rosemarie Tichler Fund Grant

Classic Stage Company has announced that Mirirai Sithole is this year's recipient of the Rosemarie Tichler Fund grant. The Fund was established in 2010 with the mission to assist young actors who have appeared at CSC and who have recently made the transition from their training into the profession. The $3,000 grant can be used by the young artist to continue training or to offset loans they may have incurred while studying their craft. With the grant, CSC hopes to make a difference in the lives of young actors at the start of their careers as well as to heighten awareness in the community to the specific needs of actors.  (more...)

Set against the backdrop of New York City in the 1960s -women's liberation, the civil rights movement, and protests of the Vietnam war-Cindy searches for her place in the world. A Sign of the Times, featuring chart-topping hits from the 1960s, celebrates friendship, love, and discovering one's sense of self. This family-friendly, uplifting event will take place at Center for Hospice Care's Mishawaka Campus, Central Park and along the Mishawaka Riverwalk. As in prior years, the event will include the Memory Wall and the Finish Line Celebration. In the year that the Congregacão Israelita Paulista (CIP) celebrates 80 years of great history and dedication to the Jewish community and the Brazilian society, the actor and singer Daniel Boaventura was chosen to be the attraction of the commemorative concert for the benefit of social work of the institution . The event, which takes place June 29 at the Teatro Sergio Cardoso, will be presented by Rubens Ewald Filho - also one of the directors and writers alongside Claudio Erlichman - and will journey for more than 50 years of history of the great Broadway classics, highlighting the strong Jewish influence in the American Songbook, which contributed to the emergence of a new artistic genre, the musical theater. The show, named 'Broadwish - From Shtetl to Broadway', created especially for this occasion, will bring a repertoire full of standards composed and written by renowned Jewish composers such as Irving Berlin, George & Ira Gershwin, Stephen Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz , Oscar Hammerstein II, Kander & Ebb and Burt Bacharach among others. Today in 1986, Arsenic and Old Lace opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rogers Theatre) where it ran for 221 performances. Arsenic and Old Lace is a play by American playwright Joseph Kesselring, written in 1939. It has become best known through the film adaptation starring Cary Grant and directed by Frank Capra. The play is a farcical black comedy revolving around Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic who must deal with his crazy, homicidal family and local police in Brooklyn, NY, as he debates whether to go through with his recent promise to marry the woman he loves.
