Really-Really Theatre Group presents MUCH BETTER: A NEW PLAY BY ELISABETH FRANKEL, at 12th Avenue Arts (1620 12th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122) August 18 - September 2, 2017.

Directed by Henry Nettleton, MUCH BETTER tells the story of Ashley, a woman who is struggling in an overconnected, information-saturated world. Diagnosed with a condition known as "Hyperempathy", she finds it difficult to hold a job, maintain relationships, and otherwise cope with the emotional demands of her everyday life. When Ashley is introduced to a new medical procedure known as Neuroclear, she sees a chance to create a new, better version of herself--but not without putting her humanity at risk.

"This play is about the choices we make when we're trying to live as best we can, and how those choices can often lead to bigger failures. It's a play about what happens when insecurity leads to self-harm." says playwright Elisabeth Frankel. "It's about what happens when we become afraid of our feelings, especially the ugly ones."

MUCH BETTER features a cast of emerging Seattle performers, including Alysha Curry in the role of Ashley, Lamar Legend as Dr. Keith, Ali Lawrence as Ashley's best friend Morgan, Nick Ferrucci as Simon, and Garrison Whaley-Sharp in the role of Guy and others. The production includes set design by Angela Alvarez, lighting design by Aaron Tacy, sound & projection design by Charlie Spears, and costume design by Natalie Shih.

Earlier this year, MUCH BETTER emerged as a semi-finalist for the 2017 O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, establishing itself as a strong and relevant literary work among over 1,300 plays. Prior to the O'Neill Conference, MUCH BETTER was a finalist in the 2016 Drama League Beatrice Terry Residency.

As a playwright, Elisabeth Frankel has won the Young Playwrights Inc. National Competition and is an MFA in Playwriting candidate at Columbia University. Her additional plays include PROGENY (Semi-Finalist, Eugene O'Neill Playwrights Conference); THE GERMAN PARTY (Finalist, PlayPenn Writers Conference); SHELTER (Winner, Marine Corps Heritage Foundation Drama Prize); JERUSALEM IS BEAUTIFUL (Finalist, NY Jewish Plays Project); MINUTES BEFORE THE VOLCANO (Winner, Hopwood Prize for Drama); and A SNOW LEOPARD IN CENTRAL PARK.

Henry Nettleton is a director native to Seattle, currently based in New York. Nettleton's directing and assistant directing credits include SWEENEY TODD (University of Michigan/MUSKET), and RAGTIME (Pioneer High School), Tilda Swinton BETRAYED US by A. Rey Pamatmat (World Premier, Keen Company/Keen Teens), COME FROM AWAY (Workshop, Seattle Repertory Theatre), and HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING (5th Avenue Theatre).

Founded in 2016 by Danielle Cohn, Trevor Griffin, and Henry Nettleton, Really-Really Theatre Group is a new theatre organization dedicated to creating eclectic programming, production, and development by embracing a process-driven, artist-first approach. Trevor, Danielle, and Henry first met as undergraduates at the University of Michigan, where they created the Wall-to-Wall Theatre Festival, a now-annual event uniting hundreds of University of Michigan students, artists, and community members over a two-day, multi-show event.

Really-Really is a theatre organization dedicated to honoring artists and audiences through eclectic programming, production, and development. We believe all projects should be given the time, energy, and resources of a true artistic process--a process beginning with trust and realized through commitment. We strive to create community around the vast and varied power of theatre by responding to the ideas, impulses, and inspirations of artists and audiences alike.
