A show has been cancelled at the Edinburgh Fringe after vocal protests from leading cultural figures, reports suggest.

High-profile individuals including Liz Lochhead, Scotland's national poet, objected to Underbelly's Reid Hall hosting Incubator Theatre's show The City, which they described as: "funded by the Ministry of Culture of the state of Israel."

Lochhead herself is reported as saying that her objection to the show was part of a boycott of Israeli work due to the current situation in Gaza, with Spiked quoting her as saying: "we, the international community, must protest by any means possible Israel's current actions in Gaza, and indeed its ongoing illegal treatment of all Palestinians."

It is now understood that the show will be hosted elsewhere, with the Scotsman suggesting it will be at Topside.
