Danny Elfman has composed music for 81 films and 17 of them have been with Tim Burton. This concert is celebrating their 25-year working relationship.

Initially it seemed as though the production had been a little ambitious with their choice of venue - Glasgow's newly opened 12,000 seater arena The Hydro had a lot of empty seats.

With a 65-piece orchestra and conducted by John Mauceri we are treated to Elfman's signature music from a number of Burton films. Accompanied by on screen visuals of film clips and original concept illustrations, these really brought the music to life, although Mauceri explained that the screens would only be turned on for some of the segment as they wanted the audience to focus fully on the music.

The films selected ranged from the first Elfman/Burton collaboration 1985's Pee Wee's Big Aventure to last year's Dark Shadows. For me the highlight was the Edward Scissorhands section - although from the whisperings in the audience I think the majority of people were excited for the Batman/Batman Returns portion of the performance.

Music From The Films of Tim Burton opened earlier this week at the Royal Albert Hall and plays three dates in Los Angeles at the end of the month.
