Review: A BEAUTIFUL NOISE at Hershey Theatre

Review: A BEAUTIFUL NOISE at Hershey Theatre

Central Pennsylvania: Rich Mehrenberg • July 1, 2026

Based on the life and times of singer-songwriter, Neil Diamond, A Beautiful Noise is a good bit more than the typical jukebox musical.  The framing device of the story is that current day Neil Diamond, played expertly by Robert Westenberg, is reluctantly visiting a therapist (Lisa Renee Pitts) to work through some issues.  Westenberg’s Diamond is gruff, surly and weary. He seems miles away from the smiling, glittery star of yesteryear.

Review: THE R&B TOUR - STARRING USHER RAYMOND & CHRIS BROWN at U.S. Bank Stadium

Review: THE R&B TOUR - STARRING USHER RAYMOND & CHRIS BROWN at U.S. Bank Stadium

Minneapolis / St. Paul: Jared Fessler • July 1, 2026

Usher and Chris Brown brought The R&B Tour to U.S. Bank Stadium on Tuesday night, and if there was one thing the show didn't lack, it was entertainment. For nearly three hours, the two artists traded sets, teamed up for several songs, and kept the energy high from beginning to end.

Review: OUT WITH A BANG OUT Proves Growing Older is not for Sissies

Review: OUT WITH A BANG OUT Proves Growing Older is not for Sissies

Los Angeles: Shari Barrett • July 1, 2026

Out With a Bang Playwright Tony Pasqualini started writing it when he turned the dreaded 70 while feeling lucky to keep working in a profession he loves, married for forty years to the same loving woman, with two adult kids that live nearby.

Review: AUNTIE MAME at Brookfield Theatre For The Arts

Review: AUNTIE MAME at Brookfield Theatre For The Arts

Connecticut: Jared Reynolds • July 1, 2026

“Live, live, live!” That is the story of Auntie Mame. Everyone is so preoccupied with doing the right thing these days, setting themselves up for success and grinding until there is nothing left, that they forget to make the most of the time we have!

Review: THE AMERICAN FIVE at Berkshire Theatre Group

Review: THE AMERICAN FIVE at Berkshire Theatre Group

Boston: Marc Savitt • July 1, 2026

THE AMERICAN FIVE Intersects Black, Queer, and Jewish histories to showcase the collective work required to bring about societal change. It reminds of those who came before us and what they did in the name of Freedom and rights. Jakobs says that 'ultra right-wing America has tried to take over the term 'American' and I say no!' To those who ask, who is the next Martin Luther King, Jakobs replies, you are. They feel that the things we do in this country impact everyone in this country and ask: 'Why are you not saying anything?'

Review: YEMAYA Blurs the Real and Surreal

Review: YEMAYA Blurs the Real and Surreal

Philippines: Oliver Oliveros • June 30, 2026

There is a distinct, visceral magic that happens when a story leaps across oceans and lands perfectly in our own vernacular.

Review: A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at Theatre On The Bay

Review: A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at Theatre On The Bay

South Africa: Judith Herbig • June 30, 2026

Beautifully staged with striking costumes, inventive direction and magnificent music, this production is a feast for both the eyes and ears. Superb performances throughout, especially Samantha Peo's moving 'Send in the Clowns' and Kate Normington's impeccable comic timing, make it an unforgettable evening of theatre.

Review: KANPUR: 1857 at Tron Theatre, Glasgow

Review: KANPUR: 1857 at Tron Theatre, Glasgow

Scotland: Mary Baillie • June 30, 2026

After an Edinburgh Fringe sell-out, Kanpur:1857 came to the Tron in association with Glasgow Mela. Strapped to a cannon, an Indian rebel (Niall Moorjani) finds themselves answering to a British officer (Jonathan Oldfield) for the crimes of Kanpur - an Indian uprising against British colonial forces. Based on historical events, this sharp new play uses comedy to interrogate colonial violence, gender politics, and the challenges of creating art during times of crisis.

1776, COME FROM AWAY & More Lead Maine Theatre Summer Picks

1776, COME FROM AWAY & More Lead Maine Theatre Summer Picks

Maine: Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold • June 30, 2026

Though for many residents and folks from away, summer in Maine signifies a chance to revel in gorgeous scenery - beaches, lakes, trails – summer is also time to enjoy two of Maine’s premiere regional companies, Maine State Music Theatre and Ogunquit Playhouse.(see Dan Marois’ review below)  This year the lineups at both companies are stellar, but my critic’s pick for 2026 are two productions at Maine State Music Theatre in Brunswick:  the musical 1776 (now playing through July 11) and COME FROM AWAY scheduled for August 5-22 at the Pickard Theater on the campus of Bowdoin College.

Review: MAINLY MOZART WITH VIOLINIST JAMES EHNES at The Conrad In La Jolla

Review: MAINLY MOZART WITH VIOLINIST JAMES EHNES at The Conrad In La Jolla

San Diego: Ron Bierman • June 30, 2026

At roughly six minutes, the Memorium is an excellent introduction to the “tintinnabula” (bell) minimalist style created by the composer. A simple melodic line combines with a separate line of triads. Music majors have written theses describing the style in excruciating detail, but the effect Pärt achieves is a bell-like simplicity that can evoke rapt spiritual introspection.

Review: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM at Wrocław Opera

Review: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM at Wrocław Opera

Opera: Natalia Jarczynska • June 30, 2026

It's no secret that I'm obsessed with this balet ensemble. Whatever they do, I would watch it day and night - but if you came even once to see them on stage, you'd know my obsession is entirely justified and, frankly, inevitable. This show only deepens that feeling. Hurrey!

Review: ICEBOY! at Goodman Theatre

Review: ICEBOY! at Goodman Theatre

Chicago: Rachel Weinberg • June 30, 2026

Iceboy! is an absolute riot. It’s a truly original and genuinely laugh-out-loud new musical comedy featuring Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman.
