Leigh Silverman, Mark Brokaw, Juliette Carillo & More Set for Sundance Institute's Theatre Directors Retreat in France

Sundance Institute and the LUMA Foundation today announced that the two organizations will again collaborate to host the second Sundance Institute | LUMA Foundation Theatre Directors Retreat in Arles, France, July 29 through August 11. The Retreat is one of 10 residential programs hosted by Sundance Institute this summer, collectively representing 15 weeks of support and mentorship for promising independent artists in theatre and film from the United States and around the world. Legendary director/writer/producer Garry Marshall will direct the Vineyard Theatre's New York debut of Mike Bencivenga's comedy BILLY & RAY this fall, with performances set to begin October 2 and an opening night scheduled for October 20 at The Vineyard, it has been announced by Douglas Aibel, Artistic Director, and Sarah Stern, Co-Artistic Director. Staircase Theatre presents Movin' On Up-Staged Readings. In its inaugural year, Movin' On Up will feature two brand new one act plays by two local, emerging (and very talented) playwrights, Scott Button and CR Packer. Scott Button's play, Better is a claustrophobic thriller and a dissection of class in our contemporary world. Better features Vancouver theatre veterans, Dawn Petten and Katherine Venour. CR Packer's play, Avril, Finally revolves around a funeral and three men brought together in unlikely circumstances. Avril, Finally features the talents of Sebastian Kroon, Byron Noble and Robert Salvador. The two plays will be directed by local directing star, Chelsea Haberlin. Movin' On Up-Staged Readings takes place at the CBC Studio 700 on August 23rd, 2014. (more...)

Gift Theatre's OTHELLO Begins Performances Tomorrow

The Gift Theatre's contemporary production of Othello, starring Kareem Bandealy as Othello and artistic director and ensemble member Michael Patrick Thornton as villainous Iago, begins previews this Thursday, July 10. Directed by Jonathan Berry (Dirty), this marks The Gift Theatre's first Shakespeare production ever mounted in its intimate 40-seat theater and Berry's Shakespearean directorial debut.
