DTC Welcomes Foe Destroyer as THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW Musicians; Show Runs 9/11-10/19

Dallas Theater Center announced today that Austin/Brooklyn band Foe Destroyer will return to the DTC stage in the upcoming production of The Rocky Horror Show. NNPN Unveils Twelve Productions of Three Rolling World Premieres

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 44th, 45th, and 46th Rolling World Premieres: Nathan Alan Davis' Dontrell, Who Kissed the Sea, Andrew Hinderaker's Colossal, and William Missouri Downs' Women Playing Hamlet will receive a total of 12 productions through the Network's Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2014/15 season. DTC Accepting Applications for Second Year of the Dallas Playwrights' Workshop

Dallas Theater Center Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty and Playwright-in-Residence Will Power announced today details for the second year of the Dallas Playwrights' Workshop. In addition to a new class of playwrights entering into the program, participants from last year will display their work at two public readings. DTC is currently accepting applications for the 2014-15 Dallas Playwrights' Workshop. The application deadline is Monday, July 14. (more...)

NAMT Awards Grants to Goodspeed Musicals, The Public Theater, 5th Avenue Theatre and More

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces nine awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its sixth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $35,500 to nine organizations across the country. (more...)

DTC Announces Recipients of Project Discovery Distinguished Educators of the Year

Dallas Theater Center announced today the two recipients of the 2013-2014 Project Discovery Distinguished Educator of the Year Award. Shawn Brentham from Irving High School and Catherine Hopkins from W. H. Adamson High School are the first ever co-recipients of the award. The educators have been involved with Project Discovery for five years and together have brought 2,500 students to 28 productions at DTC. (more...)

DTC Celebrates National Arts and Humanities Youth Program, 'Project Discovery'

Yesterday Dallas Theater Center hosted a celebration in honor of Project Discovery's recent recognition by The President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. DTC invited 200 current Project Discovery [PD] participants, teachers, past participants, teaching artists, board, staff and program donors to an hour-long event that featured stories from PD students and a full, experiential PD activity on the main stage of the Wyly Theatre. Dallas Theater Center Patrons Donate Almost $58K to North Texas Food Bank

Today in 1983, Baby opened at the Ethel barrymore Theatre, where it ran for 241 performances. Baby is a musical with a book by Sybille Pearson, based on a story developed with Susan Yankowitz, music by David Shire, and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr.. It concerns the reactions of three couples each expecting a child. Lizzie and Danny are university juniors who have just moved in together. Athletic Pam and her husband, Nick, a sports instructor, have had some trouble conceiving. Arlene, already the mother of three grown daughters, is unsure of what to do, contemplating abortion while her husband Alan is thrilled with the thought of a new baby. Throughout the show, these characters experience the emotional stresses and triumphs, the desperate lows and the comic highs, that accompany the anticipation and arrival of a baby. (more...)

DTC's Project Discovery Receives Award from First Lady Michelle Obama

Today Dallas Theater Center's Project Discovery program received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from First Lady Michelle Obama. The award recognizes exemplary after-school and out-of-school time programs from across the country and is the highest national honor awarded to such programs. Matthew Aucoin, David T. Little, & Joshua Schmidt Join Met Opera's Met/LCT New Works Program

The Metropolitan Opera has announced the addition of three new composers to its Met/LCT New Works Program. Matthew Aucoin, David T. Little, and Joshua Schmidt, three critically heralded young composers, have signed on to develop new operas through the program, which allows gifted composers and librettists to workshop new material for the opera and music theater stages, using the resources of the Met and Lincoln Center Theater. Nico Muhly's Two Boys, workshopped through the program, will have its North American premiere at the Met on October 21. (more...)
