This year marks a half-century since Dr. Martin Luther King's earthly journey ended and the Civil Rights Act of 1968 was passed. To memorialize this occasion, The New School's Nth Degree Series and Project1VOICE present Words of Change-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the New School on April 4, 2018 at 6:01 p.m. in the Auditorium Room 106, 66 West 12th Street.

According to the New York Times, Harper Lee's estate is trying to kill To Kill a Mockingbird- the play version, that is.

The play will be directed by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher.  TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, which is produced by Scott Rudin and Lincoln Center Theater (Andre Bishop, Producing Artistic Director), will begin previewsThursday, November 1 and open on Thursday, December 13 at a theatre to be announced.   Additional casting will be announced shortly.

LADY BIRD has won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy The film stars Laurie Metcalf (A DOLL'S HOUSE 2) and Saoirse Ronan (THE CRUCIBLE), who earlier in the evening picked up an award for Best Actress.

Manhattan Theatre Club's American premiere of The Royal Court Theatre's production of The Children, the new play by Olivier Award winner Lucy Kirkwood (Chimerica), directed by James MacDonald (Top Girls at MTC), had its official Broadway opening this week.

The term 'coming of age' is used fairly broadly in films these days. Any movie that focus on a young (or youngish) character who goes through difficulties generally gets this classification. However, often those films put their protagonists through incredibly tragic circumstances to help them find one specific truth as they 'come of age.' LADY BIRD, from the mind of writer and director Greta Gerwig, is a coming of age film that avoids the emotionally manipulative deaths, assaults, and addictions that often render the genre repetitive, and instead goes with the authentic difficulties that come with every day life; a hyper-critical, passive-aggressive mother; a father who is depressed because he's lost his job; a high school girl struggling with acceptance and finding her place in her family and in the world. Instead, it is a simple and subtle masterpiece, that digs down to the humor and truth of every day eccentricities.

From writer/director Greta Gerwig comes LADY BIRD, in theaters November 10th.
