The School of Theatre at Florida State University has announced its 2015-2016 season. Internationally renowned School of Theatre faculty will team up with the talented students and community members of Tallahassee, FSU alumni, and visiting artists from around the country to present a season that will inspire and entertain audiences throughout the southeast. Through the development and presentation of challenging classic and contemporary work, the School of Theatre at Florida State University continually uses the evolving, live, collaborative art of theatre to develop artists and scholars who have a lifelong passion for the arts. A pack of wolves in a jungle located in India raise a little boy with his pals: a bear and a black panther. The boy's adventures include fighting a tiger, being abducted by monkeys, and returning to the human village. This wonderful tale is based on “The Jungle Book,” a collection of stories by English author Rudyard Kipling, and provides the basis for “Mowgli,” a full-length ballet performed by the Roxey Ballet. Roxey Ballet from Lambertville, New Jersey will continue to celebrate their 20th Anniversary Season with performances through spring of 2015. Starting in March, the world premiere of 'Fall' will take place on the 27th at 7 pm. 'Fall' is based on the book by Leo Buscaglia, titled 'Fall of Freddie the Leaf'. Finally in May, Children's Classic Stories; Roxey Ballet's Jungle Book Ballet 'Mowgli' and 'Buffalo Bills Saloon' will be held on the 2nd at 3pm. All productions we will at the beautiful Kendall Hall Theater at the College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey. (more...)

During the final month of the popular Smithsonian exhibition What's Up, Doc? The Animation Art of Chuck Jones -- closing Monday, January 19 -- Museum of the Moving Image will be celebrating animation in its galleries, theaters, and classrooms. In conjunction with the Chuck Jones exhibition, this holiday period, the Museum is presenting daily screenings of classic Chuck Jones cartoons and "Stop Motion Shapes," family animation workshops inspired by the legendary animator. Based on classic stories by Rudyard Kipling like 'How the Elephant Got His Trunk' and 'How the Camel Got His Hump', The Just So Stories combine fun storytelling with lively action and colorful characters. Nine students from Main Street Theater's Education Department will bring these marvelous tales to life through the characters of Kipling's spirited daughter and her friends. The stories were adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette. There are 3 public performances: Today and Saturday, December 12 and 13, at 7:30pm, and Sunday, December 14 at 3:30pm. Performances will be held at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart, 10202 Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77024. For tickets, call 713-524-6706 or log on to MainStreetTheater.com. The Art Institute of Chicago is pleased to announce Puppets!, an interactive installation for all ages celebrating the art of puppetry, opening December 6, 2014, and continuing through June 6, 2015. Puppets! will include unique performances, puppet-making workshops, and the opportunity for visitors to the Art Institute's Ryan Education Center to interact and explore creativity through puppets. Inspiration for these fantastical and imaginative puppet creations are drawn from works in the Art Institute's collection, including the monumental drawing The Temptation of St. Anthony, the centerpiece of this winter's special exhibition, Temptation: The Demons of James Ensor. Puppeteers of all ages can experiment with ways to develop stories and use sound effects and props in order to create playful, one-of-a-kind performances. (more...)
