Santino Fontana to Star in Reading of New Play THE PIANIST

Tony Award winner Santino Fontana (Tootsie) will star in the new play The Pianist as Szpilman in a by-invitation only development reading Thursday June 23 in NYC. The Pianist features an original score by acclaimed Dutch concert pianist Iris Hond.

Producers Douglas Denoff & Beth Goldsmith, and 59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) present the Directors Company’s production of The Lucky Star by Karen Hartman, directed by Noah Himmelstein (Rooted). The Lucky Star began previews on April 26, 2022 in Theater A and opened May 5 for a run through June 12, 2022.

The world premiere will now play two additional weeks and must close Sunday, March 27 at New York City Center – Stage I.

While not exactly a moment of déjà vu, I did feel a sense of the familiar while listening to director Saheem Ali's new podcast production of Anne Washburn's provocative play of Trump-era liberal ideology, SHIPWRECK, subtitled 'a History Play about 2017'. It was followed almost immediately by an internal debate as to whether or not it was okay to mention in in this review.
