Review: 42ND STREET at Châtelet
by Patrick Honoré - Dec 27, 2022

After two postponements, the revival of the 2016 Châtelet production of 42nd Street is finally on till January 15th, with a brand-new cast but the same creative team as the original. Stephen Mear had already directed and choreographed the piece for the Parisian public six years ago. In the meantime opened a London revival of the first Broadway version with the original staging and choreography of the late Gower Champion, brilliantly enhanced by Randy Skinner, which took the work to another level of spectacular, so grand was the scale of the production value and money spent! That particular once-in-a lifetime and never-to-be-seen-again production was luckily preserved on video for posterity, but it doesn't take away from the qualities of this more intimate Châtelet version.

by Aliya Al-Hassan - Dec 6, 2022

On the surface it might seem impossible to adapt Orlando for the stage, but Neil Bartlett and director Michael Grandage have achieved a warm and witty play that is also a welcome antidote to today's culture wars.

BWW Review: AFTER THE END, Theatre Royal Stratford East
by Cindy Marcolina - Mar 3, 2022

The theatre gods work in mysterious ways. Right when Putin is wreaking havoc in Ukraine, threatening to start a nuclear world war, a show set in a fallout shelter opens at Theatre Royal Stratford East. Dennis Kelly’s After The End is a play about power and displays scenes of spine-chilling violence - which is the main reason why the writer hasn’t let many people touch it since it debuted in Edinburgh in 2005. With Lyndsey Turner at the helm, the project is a jarring, visceral tale of manipulation, control, and toxic masculinity.
