Let Me Be Me, written by Diamond and Robbie Rozelle, directed by Rozelle, and featuring musical direction and arrangements by Luke Williams, arrived at the Green Room 42 on Friday night and BroadwayWorld was there for the special occasion.

In comes Company! Just last night, the much anticipated revival of Company, starring Tony winner Katrina Lenk and two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone, opened on Broadway at the Bernard B. My observations at the time of writing and developing Rice was that stories about Asian and South Asian people, whether told through stage, screen or books, tended to focus on family narratives and also stories about the particular ethnic community the characters are from. This meant that if there were Chinese protagonists, then most of the other characters were probably Chinese, they were probably relatives.

As part of their new Recovery Season, the Orange Tree Theatre, in a co-production with Actors Touring Company now brings us Rice, a powerful, thought-provoking and funny play about cultural identity, class, race and power told through two very different women, who form an unlikely friendship. Set in Australia, Nisha is a young Indian-Australian and an ambitious executive on the cusp of securing a life-changing deal to sell rice to India. Yvette is an older Chinese-Australian who cleans Nisha’s office while she juggles with trying to revive a failing business and a daughter in trouble for environmental activism.

David Sabella, original co-star in CHICAGO, the Musical, will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Broadway’s longest running American musical with the music of Kander & Ebb and a special behind-the-scenes look at the show’s creation and his long history with it.

Well, Well…Hello, Lee Roy! The York Theatre Company will present Broadway’s Lee Roy Reams in his new solo show _Remembering Jerry Herman*, celebrating his collaboration with the late great musical theater legend.
