“Didn’t It Rain” is from Blount’s highly-anticipated new album, The New Faith. Ahead of the release, Blount has shared three album tracks: “Didn’t It Rain,” made famous by Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Mahalia Jackson, “The Downward Road,” made famous by singer Jim Williams. Music Institute of Chicago Artist-in-Residence and Chicago jazz favorite Tammy McCann will return to Nichols Concert Hall, 1490 Chicago Avenue, Evanston, on Saturday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. with Yes, Mahalia!, a homage to gospel pioneer and Chicago legend Mahalia Jackson.

The first Broadway revival of August Wilson's The Piano Lesson begins previews tonight, September 19, at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre for its 17-week engagement.  Meet the cast bringing this play back to Broadway!

 It's been 13 years since the premiere of Alretha Thomas's hit play, 'One Woman, Two Lives,' starring Kellita Smith. Now, Thomas says she's thrilled to introduce the world to her latest work, 'Mommie & Clyde.'

The Music Institute of Chicago’s 2022–23 season at historic Nichols Concert Hall in downtown Evanston features a diverse lineup of artists performing classical, jazz, and gospel music.    

Flushing Town Hall’s popular series, Mini-Global Mashups, will present another installment this summer on Sunday, July 24 at 1 PM EST with its Gospel Meets Côte d’Ivoire concert. 

The New Faith will be released as part of Smithsonian Folkways’ African American Legacy series—co-conceived with and supported by the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Conceived, written and recorded during lockdown, the album aims to envision what Black religious music would sound like in a not-so-distant future.

Chandler Center for the Arts has announced it will premiere NORTH, a vibrant new musical theater production conceived and created by writer and composer Ashli St. Armant, in November 2022.

Already opened at the Ruskin Group Theatre, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner through July 17, 2022. Lita Gaithers Owens directs the cast of Paul Denk, Lee Garlington, Brad Greenquist, Dan Martin , Mary Pumper, Vickilyn Reynolds, Mouchette van Helsdingen, Vincent Washington and Renn Woods. Lita managed to make some time to answer a few of my inquiries.

The deluxe will include the album’s 11 tracks along with three b-sides, “youth of the young,” “interrobang,” and “the sound of holding breath.” The deluxe also features two recently released album track remixes, “i need you (to be wrong),” remixed by the indie-pop group lovelytheband and “wolves,” remixed by indie-rock band, Sir Sly.

Dallas' premiere urban theater, Urban Arts Center (UAC) closes its 2nd season with a big band tribute to the Harlem Cotton Club of the 1920s with “Love You Madly: Celebrating the Music of Duke Ellington.” UAC Producing Executive Director, Jiles R. King II, helms the Dallas based jazz band, dancers, singers and narrators.
