TampaRep Announces 9th Season

May 28, 2019 Tampa Repertory Theatre has announced the slate for its 9th full season, kicking off in September 2019. Performances will be held at the HCC-Ybor Studio Theatre or at Studio 120 on the University of South Florida campus. The first night of each production is a paid preview performance.

Winners of the 64th Annual Obie Awards were announced just last night, May 20, in a ceremony held at New York City's Terminal 5. Heidi Schreck's What the Constitution Means to Me, produced by New York Theatre Workshop, received the Obie Award for Best New American Play, which is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. Artistic Director of New York Theatre Workshop, James C. Nicola, and Artistic Director and founder of Theatre For A New Audience, Jeffrey Horowitz received special Obie Awards for Lifetime Achievement. Golden Globe® winning 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' creator and star Rachel Bloom hosted this year's ceremony, which was held at Terminal 5 (610 West 56th Street).

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) are pleased to announce the complete casting for the world premiere of Continuity, the new play by Lortel and Drama Desk Award nominee Bess Wohl (Small Mouth Sounds, American Hero) and directed by Tony Award nominee Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown; Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812). Richmond Triangle Players continues its season with the Virginia premiere of Madeleine George's quirky comedy Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England, opening Friday April 12, 2019, at 8 pm, following two low-priced previews on Wednesday and Thursday, April 10th and 11th at 8 pm. The production will run through Saturday, May 4.

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) has announced that they will present a special one-night-only reading of A Number, by NYTW Usual Suspect and five-time Obie Award winner Caryl Churchill (Love and Information; A Number), directed by NYTW Usual Suspect and Tony Award winner Sam Gold (Fun Home, Othello) and featuring Daniel Craig (Othello, Spectre). Pulitzer finalist Madeleine George describes the title character of her decidedly weird little comedy about the threat of global warming, Hurricane Diane, as 'a butch charm factory.' Becca Blackwell sure fits that bill perfectly, delivering the 90-minute play's exposition monologue with the engaging flair of an ace stand-up comic nailing the punch lines in a tight three minute set.

Harris (Daddy, Zola), directed by two-time Obie Award winner Robert O'Hara (Bootycandy), will run for an additional two weeks. Originally scheduled to play its final performance on December 30, 2018, Slave Play will now play additional performances through Sunday January 13, 2019. Slave Play began previews on Monday, November 19, 2018 and will open Sunday, December 9 at New York Theatre Workshop (79 E. 4th Street New York, NY 10003).

Pulitzer Prize finalist Madeleine George, director Leigh Silverman, and cast members Mia Barron, Becca Blackwell, Nikiya Mathis, Danielle Skraastad, and Kate Wetherhead present highlights from George's new work Hurricane Diane, a co-production between New York Theatre Workshop and WP Theater. The production features Diane, a permaculture gardener dripping with butch charm and supernatural abilities owing to her true identity-the Greek god Dionysus. Diane returns to the modern world to restore the Earth to its natural state, taking to her suburban New Jersey cul-de-sac, and leading a bacchanalian catharsis with her neighboring suburban housewives.
