Maryland Ensemble Theatre to Hold Bowl-A-Thon to Raise Funds for New Venue, 4/26

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET), Frederick's largest producing non-profit theatre will be holding a Bowl-A-Thon at Terrace Lanes on April 26 to benefit their ongoing Capital Campaign to raise funds for a second performance venue. The Bowl-A-Thon will provide a fun activity for the whole family to participate in that will help the MET better serve its students and patrons. MET will cover the costs of all the bowling, food and drinks and is looking forward to enjoyable afternoon at the lanes that will include prizes for the top earners. (more...)

Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) annual Retro Prom is returning for a tenth straight year. The Frederick non-profit theatre company's annual fundraiser has reached new heights in recent years and looks to build on that success this year. A collection of some of Frederick's favorite eateries will cater the event that will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies, the always entertaining theater veteran, Joe Casta. The Prom which will also feature the musical stylings of The Spin Doctor, dancing, door prizes, a silent auction, prom photos, a cash bar and a late night pizza party will be held tonight, March 29th from 7:00-11:30pm at the Talley Recreation Center (121 N. Scotty Barnhart Named New Director of Count Basie Orchestra

The Count Basie Orchestra and All That Music Productions, LLC, is pleased to announce the appointment of Scotty Barnhart as the new Director of The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra. He follows Thad Jones, Frank Foster, Grover Mitchell, Bill Hughes, and Dennis Mackrel in leading one of the greatest and most important jazz orchestras in history. Founded in 1935 by pianist William James Basie (1904-1984), the orchestra still tours the world today and is presently ending a two-week tour in Japan. The orchestra has released hundreds of recordings, won every respected jazz poll in the world at least once, has appeared in movies, television shows and commercials, Presidential Inaugurals, and has won 18 Grammy Awards, the most for any jazz orchestra. Many of its former members are some of the most important soloists, vocalists, composers, and arrangers in jazz history. That list includes Lester Young, Billie Holiday, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Jo Jones, Frank Foster, Frank Wess, Thad Jones, Joe Williams, Sonny Payne, Snooky Young, Al Grey, John Clayton, Dennis Mackrel and others.
