July is a packed month at The Nash, kicking off with a 4th of July bash with the Bad Cactus Brass Band. The month also marks the beginning of the Catch A Rising Star Series, comprised of Arizona musicians ages 18 to 24, who have been specially selected by The Nash,. William 'Count' Basie started the Count Basie Orchestra in 1935 in Kansas City, Mo. In his early days as a performer, Basie garnered experience as a silent movie pianist and organist, and eventually worked with the Theater Owners Booking Agency (TOBA) circuit. The TOBA was the vaudeville circuit for African-American performers during the 1920's and 1930's. (more...)

Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) family theatre, The Fun Company, is proud to present the World Premiere of 'A Wish Come True'. The modern day 'Aladdin' adaptation by MET company member Caitlyn Joy will be directed by fellow company member Lia Seltzer. Full of fun and memorable characters the show will feature catchy original music by local composer and Urbana high school student Connor Cochran. Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) family theatre, The Fun Company, is proud to present a World Premiere adaptation of the classic tale of a young mermaid who longs to be human, "The Little Mermaid".  Featuring an original score by Callan Holderbaum, MET company member Laura Stark will direct an original adaptation by fellow company member Devin Gaither based on the fairy-tale by Hans Christian Anderson.  An entertaining show for the whole family, it will run at MET this April and May for nine performances over five weeks. Accomplished jazz clarinetist and tenorman, Frank Griffith travels from England to Lancaster to perform two unique concerts on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. His performance on April 17 is promised to wrap up the Ware Center's season of the Jazz in the Sky performances on a high note. The concert begins at 7:30 pm at the Ware Center located at 42 N. Prince Street, Lancaster. On Saturday, April 18 at 7:30 pm, Frank Griffith will join the 10th Annual Single Reed Symposium and finish the evening as a guest artist in the Jazz & Java concert on campus at Gordinier Hall located at 40 S. Acclaimed Jazz harpist-pianist-vocalist Corky Hale will present a 100th Birthday Show honoring Billie Holiday on Monday, April 6 at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood. Special guests will include singers Freda Payne, Eloise Laws and Tricia Tahara, with Hale on piano and harp, Lyman Medeiros on bass, John Chiodini on Guitar and Christopher Jones on drums. Holiday, who was born on April 7, 1915 and died in 1959, was one of the most important and influential jazz legends of all time. (more...)

Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET), Frederick's largest producing non-profit theater, launched a Capital Campaign in September of 2013 to raise funds for an additional performance venue and alterations to the existing facilities. On January 10, 2015 MET celebrated the completion of the Stage2: The Greene Space venue and numerous other capital improvements with a ribbon cutting ceremony, hours of free activities for families, and an evening of comedy and music.
