The Muny has announced that Broadway talents and Muny audience favorites Mikaela Bennett and Jason Gotay will headline the eighth installment of its off-season concert series, Muny Magic at The Sheldon, November 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. Bennett and Gotay were recently seen on stage in the highest-attended production of The Muny's 101st Season, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella. Bennett played the angelically spunky Ella and Gotay the irresistibly charming Prince Topher. Gotay has starred in The Muny's productions of The Little Mermaid (Prince Eric), Mamma Mia! (Sky) and Into the Woods (Jack). The enchanting evening will be music directed by frequent Muny music director Charlie Alterman. Muny Magic at The Sheldon is proudly sponsored by The Kranzberg Arts Foundation.

New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), is proud to continue its mission of educating and inspiring young musicians through its Orchestra, Jazz, Chamber Music, Composition, Musical Theater Composition, Apprenticeship Conducting, and First Music commissioning programs. This season includes seven world premieres of new works commissioned through the First Music program, composed for the Orchestra, Jazz, and Chamber Music ensembles. The season also features renowned and up-and-coming soloists including prodigy pianist Harmony Zhu, 2019 Sphinx Competition winner cellist Sterling Elliott, and leading young pianist Michelle Cann in the Carnegie Hall premiere of Florence Price's recently re-discovered Piano Concerto in One Movement with NYYS Orchestra, as well as in-demand drummer Matt Wilson, celebrated saxophonist Steve Wilson, and trombone virtuoso Wycliffe Gordon with NYYS Jazz. The Muny's current production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella is definitely not Walt Disney's Cinderella. It is nothing like Perrault's or the Grimm Brothers' Cinderella. It's not even pure Rodgers & Hammerstein, but rather a 2013 adaptation based on Rodgers & Hammerstein with a new book by Douglas Carter Beane. This musical holds the essence of your beloved fairytale but is infused (I must warn you upfront) with complicating new characters, a clumsy reordering of the original songs, and a conspicuous political subplot. Set in New York City, THE CONCRETE JUNGLE is a modern romantic musical comedy inspired by Cyrano de Bergerac. In this musical "catfish", aspiring poet Abby Burgess slings drinks at the Concrete Jungle Bar & Grill to pay off her student loans. Upon suffering a bout of writer's block, Abby gets a phone call from a panic-stricken Canadian writer guy named Guy that changes her life forever. She begins imagining the inner lives of her customers that sparks her writing to take on a new topic for her…love. But, after Abby describes herself as her friend Vanessa, will Guy professes his love to the wrong woman, or will Abby face her greatest fears and reveal her true self?
