My Broadway review of “An American In Paris, A New Musical,” stated that it was “a visual, dance-driven Broadway story-telling creation that is gorgeous, enchanting, seamless and sophisticated.” Though I won't go raise the banner as high for the touring production, I will say that it is a very, very pleasing and “'S Wonderful” evening of theater. 'The Wizard of Oz,' presented by Harlem Repertory Theater and Yip Harburg Foundation, will now close August 20, 2017 after 26 performances.  A previously scheduled September 9 performance has been canceled. The production has played since October 8, 2016 at Tato Laviera Theatre, 240 East 123rd Street (near 2nd Ave.), Manhattan, and has been extended twice. (more...)

It represents the fifth generation of musical shows based on George and Ira Gershwin's 1930 'Girl Crazy' score. Center Theatre Group Artistic Director Michael Ritchie and Broadway producer Joey Parnes announced today that the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, 'Crazy for You,' with music and lyrics by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and a book by two-time Tony Award nominee Ken Ludwig ('Lend Me a Tenor'), will be produced by Center Theatre Group in an exclusive pre-Broadway engagement at the Ahmanson Theatre. Susan Stroman ('The Producers,' 'Show Boat,' 'Contact'), who won the first of her five Tony Awards for choreographing the original 1992 Broadway production of the musical, will direct and choreograph this limited Los Angeles engagement which will begin performances February 7, 2018, and run through March 18, 2018. TheatreWorks Silicon Valley announces a special one-night-only musical event Hershey Felder's Great American Songbook Sing-Along. Felder, who will be performing Hershey Felder, Beethoven from June 7-July 9 at TheatreWorks, will lead audiences through 100 years of American music from George and Ira Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, to Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and many more.
