Linda Shelton, Executive Director of The Joyce Theater Foundation, announced today that Aaron Mattocks, the organization’s Director of Programming, will step down effective July 15, 2022.

Tickets for the 2022 American Dance Festival (ADF) season are now on sale. Celebrating its 89th season, ADF is welcoming back audiences to its first full season in three years with over 25 dance companies performing both indoors and outdoors.

The American Dance Festival will posthumously award the 2022 Balasaraswati/Joy Anne Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching to Dr. Kariamu Welsh. A ceremony honoring her and her contributions to the dance field will take place on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at 3:00 pm in Duke University's Page Auditorium.

On Friday, June 3, 2022, violinist Itamar Zorman will release a new album Violin Odyssey on First Hand Records. Born out of Zorman's 2020 live-streamed video series Hidden Gems, the album is a virtual voyage around the world that yielded the discovery of many lesser known and rarely played works for violin.

The program features a new work by 2021-22 Artist-in-Residence Katherine Young, We are all lichens for bass flute, tenor saxophone, violin, cello, feedback piano, drum kit, and live electronics, in which improvisation permeates the piece as musicians improvise extended passages based on carefully workshopped materials.

Originally a song by Brazilian artist Caetano Veloso, McCalla has shared her version of “You Don’t Know Me” today; Veloso wrote the Tropicália tune in 1971 after he was exiled to London and the track explores the loneliness of exile and the isolation from Brazilian culture that he felt at the time. The High Museum of Art today announced scholar, art historian and curator Adrienne L. Childs as the 2022 recipient of the David C. Driskell Prize in recognition of her contributions to the field of African American art. Awarded annually by the Museum since 2005, the prize demonstrates the High's ongoing dedication to furthering artistic innovation and promoting research of African American artists and scholars.

Company SBB // Stefanie Batten Bland will present the world premiere of Embarqued: Stories of Soil, an installation-based dance-theatre work that interrogates existing relationships to memorials, at Duke Performances in Durham, NC, April 15–16, 2022.
