New Hampshire Theatre Project's third Seacoast Sessions will feature jazz saxophonist Russ Grazier, accompanied by Jim Dozet on guitar. Hosted by Kathleen Somssich of WSCA Radio. Seacoast Sessions honors seacoast performers who have regional, national and international reputations and offers audiences a rare opportunity to see and hear master performing artists in an intimate setting with excellent acoustics, and to learn about their professional histories and how they mastered their craft. Seacoast audiences will be especially interested in learning how Russ Grazier turned his passion for music into the highly successful Portsmouth Music & Arts Center.

The Winter Celebration concert features the four levels of orchestras in InterSchool Orchestras of New York including Morningside, Carnegie Hill, Concert Orchestra and the ISO Symphony, conducted by Dr. Matt Rotjan, Steve Rochen, Joseph Meyers, and Barry Stern respectively. The ISO Symphony will be joined on stage by Renée Manning and members of Mingus Dynasty, providing a snapshot of ISO's dynamic season and showcasing the achievement of the students.

The OMNI Ensemble Begins Its 37th Season

The OMNI Ensemble will begin its 37th season of concerts in the recital hall at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music on Saturday evening, November 16, 2019 at 8:00 pm. Music Director/Flutist David Wechsler, will be joined by violist Amadi Azikiwe and harpist Chelsea Lane for a concert of music for flute, viola, and harp. Works include Debussy's Sonata for flute, viola and harp, Maurice Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin, David Stock's A Vanished World, Arnold Bax's Elegaic Trio and David Wechsler's Three Movements for flute, viola and harp. Continuing as the chamber music group in residence at the Brooklyn Conservatory, the OMNI Ensemble will continue to perform concerts of enormous variety all designed to provide their audience with a musical diversity not ordinarily encountered by one chamber music group. Throughout the season they perform in the recital hall at the College of Staten Island and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. The special event will honor the musical legend, who, in his five-decade career, has played alongside luminaries in multiple genres and pioneered the voice of the tuba in jazz. The event will also feature the talents of two-time Grammy-winning musician Taj Mahal and students of ISO. All proceeds from the event will support financial aid and scholarships for ISO students.

The organization has been featured on CNN Heroes and AARP Inspire as a model for improving the way we honor and care for the elderly. The OMNI Ensemble will continue its 36th season of concerts at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 8:00 pm. The program will feature music for flute, cello and piano. Also being performed are improvisations by The OMNI Ensemble featuring the Kora, an indigenous African string instrument. Music will be Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata op. 28, arranged for trio by Jim Lahti, Bohuslav Martinu's Trio for flute, cello and piano, Peter Schickele's Summer Trio, Michael Sirotta's Emanations Of Blue Light-A Rhapsody for Flute and Piano, and electronic and acoustic improvisations by The OMNI Ensemble featuring the Kora. Musicians are David Wechsler - flutes, John Cheek - keyboards, with guest artists Eric Cooper - cello and Salieu Suso - Kora.

Music for Life International continues its decade-long tradition of global humanitarian concerts with Beethoven for The Rohingya, a benefit concert featuring Beethoven's monumental Ninth Symphony, presented in the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall on Monday, January 28, 2019. Beethoven for The Rohingya is an urgent call to the global community to raise awareness for the nearly 1 million Rohingya refugees fleeing what the United Nations have defined as genocide in Rakhine State in Myanmar.  Refugees, who are seeking safety in Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other nearby locations, are grossly lacking access to healthcare when it is needed most; net proceeds from this performance will benefit Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), which provides medical aid to those who are among the world's most vulnerable.

Cornelia Street Cafe And Underground To Close On January 2, 2019

On its tenth anniversary, New York City Mayor, Ed Koch, named the Cornelia Street Cafe 'a culinary as well as a cultural landmark.' Now that landmark will close its doors at 29 Cornelia Street for good on January 2, 2019. A year ago, The New York Times reported that the Cafe was in trouble, with a soaring rent threatening closure. An official reason for the shuttering has not been revealed, but according to DNAInfo, landlord Mark Scharfman is 'a frequent fixture on various 'Worst Landlord' lists.'
