The Skirball Cultural Center today unveiled details about Leonard Bernstein at 100, the official exhibition celebrating the centennial of Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990). Through more than 150 objects - including photographs, papers, scores, correspondence, costumes, furniture, and films, as well as interactive displays - the retrospective explores half a century of activity by the renowned American composer, conductor, pianist, and humanitarian, who dedicated his life to making classical music a vibrant part of American life. In particular, it offers insight into Bernstein's creative process and enduring legacy, including his contributions as both a pioneering educator and an engaged citizen who lent his voice to many social justice causes.
Sasha Allen & Ricardo Zayas Join Aurora Barnes at Feinstein's/54 Below

Sasha Allen (The Voice, Pippin, Hair, Camp) and Ricardo Zayas (Hamilton) will join Aurora Barnes in Somewhere Between Sondheim and Lullabies at Feinstein's/54 Below on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 7pm. A portion of the proceeds from the show will benefit TADA! Youth Theater, of which Aurora, Sasha, and Ricardo are all alumni. Come hear songs ranging from Sondheim to Bob Dylan to Aurora's original compositions.

The Public Theater will begin previews on Sunday, October 22 for the world premiere of Illyria, written and directed by Richard Nelson, part of The Public's Astor Anniversary Season at their landmark downtown home on Lafayette Street, celebrating 50 years of new work at 425 Lafayette Street and the 50th Anniversary of HAIR. Forty years ago, three struggling artists (writer/director Robin Hirsch, actor Charles McKenna, visual artist Raphaela Pivetta), opened a one room storefront cafe on Cornelia Street in the heart of the West Village. With a toaster oven and an espresso machine, Cornelia Street Cafe became a magnet for artists of all genres, who soon found a home, and a willing and appreciative audience. That was on July 4, 1977.

For one night, folk music legend Pete Seeger's legacy in song was celebrated by a diverse array of musical talent. The Kennedy Center Concert Hall stage held a who's who including multiple Grammy winners, living legends and up-and-coming artists performing in tribute to the singer and activist Pete Seeger. Hosted by Larry Groce of National Public Radio's MOUNTAIN STAGE, the long and satisfying evening was officially entitled PETE SEEGER AND THE POWER OF SONG: TRIBUTE TO A FOLK LEGEND. No frills, no fuss, just great music performed with the same simplicity and power Seeger was known for during his own long career.

Last night (March 9, 2017) at Tribeca Performing Arts Center Highlights In Jazz producer Jack Kleinsinger presented David Amram with their annual award. Every year since 1974 Highlights In Jazz has honored a living jazz musician for their 'matchless musical achievements'.
