Art of Time Ensemble Presents I SEND YOU THIS CADMIUM RED, Now thru 4/12

Art of Time Ensemble's unprecedented and engaging production I Send You This Cadmium Red returns to the stage this spring. The critically acclaimed show is an exploration of the senses, merging music, theatre and striking visual projections to kaleidoscopic effect. Originally presented in 2011 to unanimous rave reviews, the remount features additional, never-before-heard music by composer Gavin Bryars (The Sinking of the Titanic), direction by Daniel Brooks (House, Possible Worlds) and musical direction by Andrew Burashko. Julian Richings (Helmlock Grove, Orphan Black) and John Fitzgerald Jay (True Crimes, Half Life) reprise their original roles, performing alongside ensemble musicians playing Bryars' music and visual projections created by Bruce Alcock. On stage from today, April 9 to 12 at the intimate Enwave Theatre, I Send You This Cadmium Red promises to be a stunning return. (more...)

Toronto Alexander Neef, General Director of the Canadian Opera Company, today released details of the company's new opera commission, Hadrian, composed by internationally acclaimed Canadian-American singer, songwriter and composer Rufus Wainwright with libretto by award-winning Canadian actor, director and playwright Daniel MacIvor. Inspired by the Roman Emperor Hadrian and his love for Antinous, Hadrian is currently in development and is scheduled to open the COC's 2018/2019 mainstage season. (more...)

The Theatre Centre today announced a series of exciting partnerships and collaborations programmed to celebrate the organization's move to their newly renovated home in the historic Carnegie Library on Queen St. West in early 2014. General & Artistic DirectorFranco Boni will animate the live arts hub and incubator with 10 new performance pieces presented from January through June, along with hosted rentals and a series of artistic residencies. Acclaimed actor and international film and television star Jason Priestley (Call me Fitz, Beverly Hills, 90210) returns to the stage in his first live theatre role since 2000 in Canadian Stage's production of RACE, by award-winning playwright David Mamet. Directed by Daniel Brooks and co-starring Matthew Edison (Murdoch Mysteries, Saving Hope), Cara Ricketts (Stratford Festival, Cruel and Tender) and Nigel Shawn Williams (Topdog/Underdog, Cruel and Tender), the play will be on stage at the Bluma Appel Theatre from April 7 to May 5, 2013 (opening and media night: April 11).
