Each season, the Keen Playwrights Lab brings together three mid-career playwrights to develop new full-length plays inspired by Keen Company's mission. Under the leadership of Jeremy Stoller, Keen's Director of New Work, writers meet throughout the year to create new plays that provoke identification, reflection, and emotional connection. The Playwrights Lab culminates with a reading of each new play in the spring, attended by the Keen community, the theater industry, and the general public. Keen's fourth season of the Playwrights Lab will allow Julia Jordan, Andrea Thome and Stefanie Zadravec to develop new plays. (more...)

The 13th Street Repertory Theater presents Perversion, a world premiere allegory of modern America written and directed by Judson Blake.  The cast of eight includes Harry Bainbridge, Daniel Cuff, Tony Del Bono, Dana Jesberger, Irina Kaplan, Robert Lewis, Andrew Nordin and Jenn Susi.  Thirty performances will be staged at the 13th Street Repertory Theater, 50 West 13th Street in NYC 10011 from March 30-April 30, 2017. 4th Wall Theatre Company launches its inaugural play reading festival, 4th Wall Reads:  Women's Voices.  Running March 2nd - March 12th at STUDIO 101, the festival showcases five exceptional female playwrights, including Pulitzer Prize finalist and renowned playwright Theresa Rebeck who is headlining the event.  The five plays, which are new to Houston audiences and range from insightful comedies to hard-hitting dramas, will be read twice over the 10-day festival with each reading to be followed by moderated talk-backs.  All general admission tickets are Pay What You Can, with a limited number of reserved seats available for advance purchase.   (more...)

Rubicon Theatre Company presents GULF VIEW DRIVE , the third and final play in Arlene Hutton's Nibroc Trilogy, directed by Indy award-winning Katharine Farmer with the same cast reprising their critically-acclaimed roles from the Los Angeles Times "Critic's Choice" productions of Last Train to Nibroc and last season's See Rock City. Lily Nicksay ("Boy Meets World"/The Wild Duck at A Noise Within) and Erik Odom ("The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2"/Sons of the Prophet at The Blank) return as May and Raleigh, along with See Rock City featured cast members Clarinda Ross (Spit Like a Big Girl/Steel Magnolias) and Sharon Sharth (Waiting for Grace/ member of Actors Studio and Circle Rep in New York). Joining the cast is returning Rubicon artist Faline England (Crimes of the Heart (Indy Award)/Turn of the Screw (Ovation Nomination). The ongoing love story of May and Raleigh concludes with the Kentucky couple now living comfortably in Florida in the 1950s. But their settled life is once again rocked by the arrival of family and turbulent events that threaten their sunny existence. Their love and devotion are put to the test when they must make unconventional decisions in a rapidly changing world. Molly is so ecstatic to be performing alongside Loni Ackerman and the incredible cast of Love Songs. 20 year old Molly just got back from the Narnia festival in Italy where she choreographed and premiered 'The Lullaby of Broadway' a new musical review. She is currently taking classes at the Barrow Group and is a proud faculty member at Shuffles Tap and Musical Theater School. Greasepaint Productions (Thank You For Being a Friend the Musical) is a theater company dedicated to bringing passion projects to the New York stage in quality productions. Their current producing endeavor is the lesser known, but stunningly written AIDS drama, Lonely Planet written by Steven Dietz. Originally produced by the Barrow Group in 1994, Lonely Planet tells the story of Jody, a forty year old shop owner who has become a shut in and his younger friend Carl, a caretaker who has to convince him that not only is it ok to leave the shop, he must do so to take responsibility for his life. First, Jody has to come to terms with the fact that his community is being decimated by the AIDS virus and he must be tested before he becomes a casualty as well. (more...)
