WAKE, written by New York-based Carey Crim, will have its west coast premiere presented by LA's critically acclaimed SeaGlass Theatre company Saturday, April 26 through Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the beautiful Fremont Centre Theatre in South Pasadena, CA, it was announced today by Ovation nominated actor and SeaGlass Theatre Managing Director Paul Stroili, along with SeaGlass Artistic Director Kimberly Van Luin. The 15th anniversary season of the Midtown International Theatre Festival continued with the opening of the Commercial Division, Monday, March 31, 2014, at The Barrow Group's TBG Theatre with a get-together featuring excerpts from a repertory of plays and musicals whose production values are designed for Off-Broadway, a regional theatre run ... or better. Each show gave the enthusiastic audience 25 minutes of material starting with a stunning star turn by the talented Capathia Jenkins as Hattie McDaniel in Joan Ross Sorkin's Understanding Mammy. David Van Asselt's A FABLE to Begin Performances 5/3 at Cherry Lane Theatre

Rising Phoenix Rep to Present BARN, 3/23-4/10

After the critical success of its most recent Off-Broadway production, the Lucille Lortel Award winning All the Rage by Martin Moran (produced with piece by piece productions and The Barrow Group), acclaimed company Rising Phoenix Repertory returns to its longtime downtown home with the world premiere of Barn by Charlotte Miller, directed by Michael Padden. The play will be staged for eleven performances only at the Seventh Street Small Stage, where the company has produced new plays site-specifically for eight years in addition to more than 25 fully produced new plays in its lauded Cino Nights series. The production will run from March 23 - April 10, 2014, and features Brian Miskell, Laura Ramadei, and Sanford Wilson. (more...)

Paul Sorvino to Star in, Adapt NYC Premiere of LEAR for Shrunken Shakespeare's 2014 Gala, 4/21

Shrunken Shakespeare Company's 2014 Fundraiser Gala will be hosting the New York City premiere of "Lear" adapted by and starring Paul Sorvino. This cut of William Shakespeare's "King Lear" will be presented as a staged reading, produced by SSC in collaboration with director and producer Joe Paradise. In addition to Sorvino and Paradise, actor/comedian Wayne Powers, Michael Sorvino, and Tyler Hollinger of The Public Theatre and The Mint, will also be taking part in "Lear." Complete casting is to be announced. The Gala will take place on Monday, April 21 at 7:30pm, at The Barrow Group located at 312 W. 36th Street, 3rd Floor. (more...)

Shakespeare Theatre to Welcome Michael Urie's BUYER & CELLAR, 6/20-29

The Shakespeare Theatre Company is proud to present Buyer & Cellar as a part of its STC Presentation Series. Written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Stephen Brackett, Buyer & Cellar will launch its North American tour in Chicago in May before coming to D.C. Buyer & Cellar had its world premiere in April 2013 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, where it received rave reviews and played a sold-out, extended run before transferring to the Barrow Street Theatre where it opened June 24, 2013. Buyer & Cellar stars Michael Urie (Ugly Betty) as a struggling (and recently fired) L.A. actor named Alex More, who finds himself taking an odd job working in the Malibu basement of a Hollywood mega-star (and though her name is not mentioned, there are numerous similarities to Barbara Streisand). When the A-lister makes a rare appearance one day, the comedy launches into an outrageous look at fame and the price that accompanies it. Buyer & Cellar will run from June 20-29, 2014, at STC's Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). (more...)

The Drama League (Gabriel Shanks, Executive Director; Roger T. Danforth, Artistic Director) has announced the ten artists and theater ensembles chosen to develop new plays and musicals as part of the 2014 Artist Residency Program. The development of these works, which include two 2014 Artists In Residence, Rachel Dickstein/Ripe Time and Jeremy Bloom/Rady&Bloom, will be held at The Drama League Theater Center (32 Avenue of the Americas) in Tribeca from March-July 2014.
