Conductor Laureate Hans Graf will return to the podium to lead the orchestra in Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet today, April 10 and April 12 and 13, followed directly by Music Director Designate Andres Orozco-Estrada's return to conduct Bronfman Play Beethoven 4 on April 17, 18 and 19. On April 22, the Houston Symphony will perform its first free concert at Discovery Green. Celebrating joint anniversaries, the Houston Symphony's Centennial Season and Discovery Green's sixth birthday, the two organizations will be joining forces to create a unique outdoor event open to all. Led by Concertmaster Frank Huang, the concert will include a performance of Astor Piazzolla's tango-inspired Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, a set of four tango compositions representing the four seasons, alongside Tchaikovsky's famous Serenade for Strings. Violinist Philippe Quint Receives Gateways Ambassador of Arts Award

On Wednesday, March 12, violinist Philippe Quint was awarded the Ambassador of Arts Award at the 16th Anniversary Gala Banquet of the Gateways Organization celebrating The Brownstone Experience. The banquet, held in the Delegates Dining Room at the United Nations, was attended by distinguished elected officials, world business leaders, dignitaries and over 400 prominent guests, also honoring fashion designer Valentin Yudashkin and Virginie and Mark Cohen, CEOs of Stonehouse Capital Management. Unfortunately, Quint was not able to be present at the Award ceremony. On the way to the United Nations, Quint's taxi was hit by another vehicle running a red light and Quint had to be hospitalized. Fortunately there were no serious injuries and he is scheduled to appear next week with the Rhode Island Philharmonic. (more...)

Due to the sudden death of guest vocalist Alexei Mochalov's wife, tonight's February 7 program of Gidon Kremer and Kremerata Baltica at the Harris Theater has been changed. Mieczyslaw Weinberg's Concertino, Op. 42 and Benjamin Britten's Young Apollo, Op. 16 replaces the previously scheduled Antiformalist Rayok by Dmitri Shostakovich and Britten's Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge, Op. 10. With the addition of Concertino, Op. 42, audience members will have the extraordinary opportunity to hear two works featuring violinist Gidon Kremer. Kremer also leads Kremerata Baltica in Weinberg's Symphony No.10 for strings, Op.98, appearing onstage in three of the evening's four works. (more...)

Fall in love with Maestro Thierry Fischer as he leads guest Violinist Itamar Zorman through Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto in D Major."
