LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER - the multiple Emmy Award-winning performing arts series that for more than 40 years has showcased the best of the wide-ranging programming from the world's leading performing arts center - will broadcast the opera world's most highly anticipated event of the season on February 5, 2016. The annual Richard Tucker Music Foundation Gala concert features some of opera's biggest stars, including Andrea Bocelli, Renee Fleming, Angela Gheorghiu, Isabel Leonard, Christine Goerke, Lawrence Brownlee, Stephen Costello, Nadine Sierra, and Piotr Bezcala, along with this year's Richard Tucker Award winner, Jamie Barton. Supporting the singers will be members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and New York Choral society under the baton of Eugene Kohn. Live From Lincoln Center's 'From Bocelli to Barton: The Richard Tucker Opera Gala' will air on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 9:00 p.m. on PBS (check local listings), and will be hosted by Audra McDonald. NJTV, New Jersey's public television network, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC)  presented the first performance of the American Songbook at NJPAC series and BroadwayWorld was there. On Saturday, October 17, Symphony Space presents Frank Sinatra at 100, a starry celebration of the iconic singer's centennial. Over the course of three three-hour sets - 2 pm, 5 pm, and 8 pm - no fewer than 100 songs from Sinatra's repertoire will be performed by an impressive roster of interpreters, including Peter Cincotti, Tony Danza, Rebecca Luker, Marilyn Maye, Tierney Sutton, and dozens more. Instrumental renditions by pianist Bill Charlap, the guitar duo of Bucky Pizzarelli & Ed Laub, and saxophonists Harry Allen and Ted Nash will complement the vocal selections. The house band throughout the day will be led by Russ Kassoff on piano, with Dick Sarpola on bass and John Redsecker on drums.  (more...)

This season's Lincoln Center's American Songbook, curated by John Nakagawa and Charles Cermele, busted out of the gate with a 'B' (as in Broadway...) with an opening night featuring Billy Porter and, last night, a star who we saw in a whole new light, Norm Lewis. Lewis did what he does best, and knocked it out of the ballpark with a fantastic program, entitled WHO AM I?, in which he proved, via one of the strongest American Songbooks ever seen, that 'you are, indeed, what you sing.'
