Latest News on Paul Rubin
Paul Rubin, "The Fly Guy", has choreographed some of the most memorable flying sequences from the Tony Award winning Broadway production of Wicked to Cathy Rigby's Emmy Award winning DVD of Peter Pan.
Broadway credits include: Wicked, Curtains, The Pirate Queen, Fiddler on the Roof, Frozen, Saturday Night Fever, Kiss Me Kate, The Green Bird, Dance of the Vampires and of course Peter Pan.
In his career, Paul has flown over 300 different productions of Peter Pan in 10 different countries (including Japan, Korea and Norway), and has operated over 2000 performances. He has also staged flying sequences in Japan, South America and Australia for The Wizard of Oz; a far cry from Kansas.
Paul does not limit himself to just flying. He created the suicide sequence for the Broadway production of Saturday Night Fever and was asked to create the climactic ending for the Tony Award winning play, Frozen. He also choreographed the Chagall-like aerial poses for the 2004 Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof.
Paul’s flying magic has also been seen on the road in The Spider-Man Live Stunt Spectacular. The Green Goblin zoomed across stage on his glider without the aid of camera tricks or CGI, just the magic of Paul Rubin. Other tours include Dora the Explorer Live, Blue’s Clues Live, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Scooby Doo Live, and Seussical the Musical. Paul has also earned the following television credits: Entertainment Tonight, The 1999 Tony Awards, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, CNN, and A&E’s Emmy winning Peter Pan starring Cathy Rigby.
Some of the talented performers Paul has given wings to include: David Hyde Pierce, Michael Crawford, Rene Auberjonois, Neil Patrick Harris, Michael Cerveris, Howie Mandel and Tom Hewitt. He also had the pleasure of working with the following creative minds: Julie Taymor, Joe Mantello, Des McAnuff, Arlene Phillips, Howell Binkley, David Gallo, Wayne Cilento, Eugene Lee and Jim Steinman.
Some prestigious theater companies Paul has lent his talents to include: La Jolla Playhouse (Dracula & The Collected Works of Billy the Kid) Pittsburgh C.L.O. (Casper the Musical w/ Chita Rivera), Music Theatre of Wichita (Beauty and the Beast & Wizard of Oz), Theatre Under the Stars (Kopit and Yeston’s premiere of “Phantom”), Starlight Theatre, The Old Globe and Holland America Cruise Line.
Of all the people Paul has flown over the years, Cathy Rigby has definitely accrued the most frequent flyer miles. He is excited and proud to be a part of the upcoming 2011 -2012 tour of Cathy Rigby’s Peter Pan.
