Due to the sudden illness of the main protagonist of the Land of Body, the National Theatre of Prague had to cancel several performances.

Traditions. How to live, keep and pass them on, or rather abandon them in the name of the new world. This is the main theme of the new play by a young playwright Eliška Říhová, which will be performed in the world premiere at the New Stage. The theme presents multiple layers, from the viewpoint of the old and younger generations. One of them opens a seemingly simple situation.

The play, based upon a true story about a village girl married against her will, was repeatedly rejected by the dramaturgy of the National Theatre for reasons of excessive naturalism in the way the corrupt relationships among the characters and the circumstances of the murder were depicted.

The production, which will premiere at the National Theatre, requires from the performers expressive acting, brilliant dance technique and a profound sense for a range of emotional portrayal of the individual characters.

By means of depicting his encounters with his wife, father, friends and passers-by, the author paints a plastic picture of the mental landscape of a man who bears a host of autobiographical traits, yet may be identified with by everyone who is or plans to be a father.

This poetic story about a futile quest for the unachievable is embodied by figures of clowns incited by a magician – the Seducer – and a vision of the beautiful Venus, who takes on the forms of earthly women.

Its protagonist leaves his home in Warsaw so as to seek peace in the mountain resort of Zakopane. He abandons the familiar world anchored in the cosmos through the well-established rules and notions of reality, and discover a new one, abounding it confusing weirdness.

Four men, old friends, hold a party. They discuss personal and historical matters, the long-given and the irrevocable, they talk about the extinction of humankind, the global powers’ geopolitical escapades, the corruptness of the Czech elites.

Toddlers aged 6 months to 3 years and their adult companions will get up on the stage, which will turn into a large playground.
