Carolyn German BIO

Carolyn German has been a theater professional for over 35 years, having worked as performer, director, producer, playwright, composer, improvisation artist, teaching artist, and corporate trainer. Since 2000 she has been the Producing Artistic Director of Theater Craft Inc which specializes in small-cast productions and new work. Her award-winning work as a theater-maker boasts numerous projects across a variety of genres, as evidenced by this year's eclectic projects: Carolyn's experiential play "Box O' Theater" was selected for performance at OZ Arts' MusicCircus, she wrote and directed "The Curious Picnic" a play that will tour into schools this fall, and has written the screenplay for a evocative drama about Ethel Rosenberg. Carolyn is a faculty member at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, where she created and teaches a series of classes for cabaret artists, including Cabaret Toolkit, Cabaret Repertoire, and Improv Comedy for the Musical Artist. In 1998 Carolyn founded Spontaneous Comedy Company, Nashville's longest-running improv comedy group, performing in a variety of venues, included several times a year at their home-base, the Nashville Jazz Workshop. For seven years Carolyn was the Supervisor of Theater and Music for Metro Nashville Parks Cultural Arts, cultivating arts programming for Nashville's broad demographic. Her work included custom-crafting content to maximize success for older adults, and working with Parks' Disabilities Program to create a performance program for adults with disabilities. She also managed the Z.Alexander Looby Theater, and created the Centennial Black Box Theater.

Review: Studio Tenn Collaborates with TPAC for 2022-23 Season Opener of AIDA IN CONCERT at Polk Theatre


Studio Tenn – the Franklin-based professional theater company – launches its 2022-23 season in collaboration with Tennessee Performing Arts Center for a concert staging of Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, playing for just two nights at TPAC’s James K. Polk Theatre September 30 and October 1. Under the direction of Studio Tenn artistic director Patrick Cassidy (who shares duties with co-director and choreographer Gerry McIntyre), Aida features a starry cast of actors with Broadway pedigrees (Jackie Burns and Rex Smith), along with some of Music City’s most beloved stage veterans (Bakari Jamal King and Mark Cabus) and featuring the stunning triumph of a young woman who audiences have watched grow up on Nashville stages (Maya Riley) in the title role.

Nashville Theater Mourns the Passing of Iconic Actor DAVID COMPTON


David Compton – one of the region's most accomplished and acclaimed and most beloved actors and directors – died early Wednesday morning, May 4, after a four-year battle with heart disease and cancer. He leaves his wife, Amanda Card Compton (whom he married on Tuesday, May 3, just hours before his death); his mother, Jo Compton of Badin, North Carolina; his sister Becky Compton Taylor; his brother Jim Compton; and countless other friends and family who are mourning his passing.
