The Voronezh State Ballet Theatre of Russia presents Swan Lake on Thu, Feb 3, 7:30 pm at Northrop

$35, $48, $58

One of the greatest fairytale ballets of all time, Swan Lake returns to Minnesota as gloriously performed by The Voronezh State Ballet Theatre of Russia. The company of 54 distinguished Russian dancers, most of whom have won international ballet competitions, hails from one of the most artistically rich, and ancient, regions of Russia. This timeless ballet features Prince Siegfried and swan Odette as they lure your imagination deep within their love battles against the evil sorcerer's continuous trickery. The dancers soothe over the doom and sorrow with their amazing grace and intricacy that carries all the way through to the mystical ending.

It wouldn't be the ultimate ballet without the musical compositions of the famous Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Writing some of the most famous concert and theatrical music, Swan Lake was Tchaikovsky's first ever ballet score that paved the way for his career in theatre arts. As you may or may not know, the first productions of Swan Lake were ill received. It wasn't until the illustrious choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov took over the production that it became a large success. A full century later we continue to celebrate this legacy of the one of the most desired gems of classical ballet.
