November 20 is Transgender Day of Remembrance, and while there are no statistics that exist in Minnesota on gender identity, it's estimated that .6 percent of Americans are transgender. That would make more than 24,000 Minnesotans.

On November 18 from 5 pm to 7 pm, Lee Schubert, author of Woman Incognito, is revealing her journey towards self-acceptance as a transsexual woman-and her controversial decision not to transition, physically or socially. In an engaging and thought-provoking book talk and panel discussion, Schubert will explore transgender identities, spirituality, and her very personal gender discovery.

"Only a few decades ago, very little was known about gender as distinguished from sex. The idea that a person's gender could be different from his or her sex assigned at birth was almost unknown," recalls Schubert. "A lot of progress has been made, but there is still a long, long way to go. And those of us who are currently living the transsexual experience are in the vanguard of the gender journey into the future."

Schubert's book talk and panel is taking place at All God's Children Metropolitan Community Church in Minneapolis.

"Let us move onward together," adds Schubert. "Transcending boundaries of gender and whatever else threatens to confine us in restrictive categories." All are welcome!
