The 2016 Miami Art Week edition of Superfine! The Fairest Fair proved that you need not be an oligarch or trust fund heir to collect incredible, inspired artwork. It proved that artists of all colors and creeds have a voice in today's art market. And last but not least, Superfine! proved that there can in fact exist a fun and dynamic counter to the stolid and opaque art world of yore, without sacrificing a constant professionalism that shines throughout.

This year's fair played host to over 40 exhibitors hailing from all four corners of the globe -- though Miami's home field art scene was well-represented, making up over half of the offering. Thought provoking, mind and body bending, tropically tinged performance art by queer feminist electro trop-pop act K Pasa USA was woven in with socially conscious pieces by Monica Jahan Bose and Gio Black Peter. Everybody boogied to Patrick & The Swayzees during the backyard opening shindig and a one-of-a-kind ad-libbed Afrobeta set brought down the house during our It's Super Miami... locals' reception. Miami's LGBTQ community was well represented with an arTEA tea dance Saturday night with a special DJ set spun by the one and only Lady Miss Kier of dance music powerhouse Deee-Lite. The Perez Art Musuem's Teen Arts Council hosted a pop up film festival inside of a retro trolley, while a series of afternoon panel discussions brought art world and real world luminaries together in spirited conversation about the direction of the city and the art world as a whole. Pyrographic artist Alex Kuhn laid fire to wood in the rear garden atop a glowing green platform within the Beck's Urban Canvas activation, and dozens of works of art inside the fair found new homes. Collectors young and old, new and established, all discovered a refreshing respite with hip, fresh work curated to reflect a core value of accessibility and challenge to the status quo.

The best part? They got it all on tape. (...or whatever the digital version is called - big thanks to Superfine! creative director and in-house artist James Miille for making it happen!)

Again, they're not just a fair.

Superfine! has an incredible online presence that outlasts its physical manifestation. Just in time for the holidays, don't forget to visit their online E-Fair, which will reside in cyberspace until January 8. Many works are still available, and you'll find the images and pricing info that'll lead you to the perfect artwork gift for the person you REALLY care about (including yourself!).

With a second year of Superfine! behind us, all of the passionate curators, dealers, artists, and partners that make up our fairest of fairs have come to feel less like exhibitors and more like family. They've blazed a new trail as not only Miami's own art fair but a scrappy global player set to take the stage in May during NYC's Frieze Art Week and in Mexico City in September during Galéria Weekend MX + concurrent w/ Zsona Maco Foto. Thank you to everyone -- all of the passionate exhibitors, collectors, media, sponsors, partners, and anyone excited about their mission to overhaul the art world -- for your continued support and look forward to a banner 2017.

Applications for NYC open on January 1, Mexico City on February 1, and Miami on March 1. We encourage all interested artists, dealers, and curators to visit our Exhibitor Information page on January 1st to learn more about how to apply for the 2017 program.
