The Public Theatre of South Florida
(with The Soref JCC)
2005 - 2006 Season

SHOW #1
The Normal Heart
by Larry Kramer
Directed by Steven A. Chambers
10/15 - 11/6/05
BEFORE ROCK HUDSON!  Before the red ribbons!  When friends and loved
ones began getting sick and noone knew why. . .  When the Reagan and
Koch Administrations refused to admit there was a problem. . .  When
most of the world just DIDN'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT!!  A small group
of people, determined to make a difference,  raised their voices and
refused to be silenced!!  The Normal Heart is, perhaps, the most
important and compelling play about the AIDS crisis.  Still,
unfortunately, incredibly timely, "it is a searching, often witty,
and rousingly humane drama."  John Simon, NY Magazine.  There is
noone who should not see it!!

SHOW #2

Barefoot Boy With Shoes On
by Edwin Sanchez
Directed by Stewart Meltzer

11/26 - 12/18/05

POST OFF-BROADWAY NATIONAL PREMIERE!!  Rosario Cortez lives with his
father and grandfather in a single room occupancy hotel and supports
them all by working as a window washer.  His girlfriend is pregnant
and he is willing to do anything to provide a better life for "his
son."  Can a Puerto Rican window washer find his "happily ever
after?" "BAREFOOT BOY WITH SHOES ON (By the author of TRAFFICKING IN
BROKEN HEARTS) is . . . a touching drama that's worthy of
attention..."  David Kaufman, NYDaily News

SHOW #3

ALL THE GREAT BOOKS (Abridged)
1/14 - 2/5/06
by. Reed Martin & Austin Tichenor
Directed by Monica Kelly

by the inspired lunatics who brought you THE COMPLETE WORKS OF
WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (abridged).  We in the audience have all failed
the course in Western Literature - AND THE MAKE-UP EXAM IS IN 90
MINUTES!!  Unfortunately, the only teachers available to teach the
review course are the Football Coach; The Drama Teacher and a brand
new Student Teacher.  82 classic books in 90 Minutes!  Hang on for a
wild, wacky and hysterical ride!

SHOW #4

Fabulation
(or The Re-Education of Undine)
by Lynn Nottage
Directed by Michael Yawney
2/25 - 3/19/06
Sharona Watkins flees her underprivileged family and creates a new
identity as Undine, powerful and ruthless public relations diva.
But when her husband steals her blind and she is inadvertently
involved in a scandal --she is forced to return to her family and re-
examine her roots and her identity. FABULATION is Lynn Nottage's
Follow-Up to her 1994 NY Drama Critics' Award for INTIMATE APPAREL.
And the NY critics loved it!!
"(A) robustly entertaining comedy!" Ben Brantley, NY Times

"Lynn Nottage's new satire, "Fabulation or, The Re-Education of
Undine," is a morality play etched in acid and laced with humor
about the scandalous fall of a pushy African-American public-
relations diva and her ethical regeneration." United Press Int'l

SHOW #5

(Co-Production of Public Theatre and PPTOPA@City Theatre)
The Diary of Anne Frank
by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett
(newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman)
Directed by David Jay Bernstein

In 1942, Otto Frank, his wife and two daughters, another couple with
their teenage son and a dentist, went into hiding in a "secret
annex" above an office in Amsterdam; hoping to wait out the war
without being discovered by The Nazis.  His daughter, Anne, began
chronicling their experience and her personal feelings in her
diary . . . continuing for two years until. . .

This bold new adaptation draws on previously censored materials from
Anne's original diary.  This is not the Anne Frank you think you
remember.

"SHATTERS THE HEART"- New York Times

"Brilliant. Inspired.  An extraordinary theatrical adventure" - New
York Post

March 24 – April 9 at PPTOPA's City Theatre
April 15 - 4/23/06 at Soref JCC

SHOW #6
. . . And Then She Moved The Furniture. . .
by Manny Diez
Directed by David Jay Bernstein
5/13-6/4/06
World Premiere by Screenwriter and Miami Playwright, Manny Diez.
Based on actual events.  It is a little-known fact that, based on
documented and tragic results,  The U.S. Army warns all wives of
special forces soldiers departing for war, not to move the furniture
while their soldier is away.  This gripping and brilliantly written
drama is based on the true story of a military sniper who left
for "Desert Storm" in 1991 and returned to find that his wife had
moved the furniture.  Not a good thing!!
