Asolo Repertory Theatre presents Deathtrap, Ira Levin's classic mystery thriller. Directed by Peter Amster, Deathtrap runs from April 1-May 14, 2011. With its unique blend of mystery, thrills and humor Deathtrap is known as one of the biggest hits on Broadway and holds the record as the longest running comedy-thriller.

In addition to Peter Amster, the creative team includes Michael Schweikardt (Set Design), VirGil Johnson (Costume Design), Aaron Muhl (Lighting Design), Kevin Kennedy (Sound Design), Bruce Lecure (Fight Director), Michelle Hart (Wig/Hair Design), and Resident Stage Manager Sarah Gleissner.

The cast features Guest Artists Mercedes Herrero (Myra) and Bryan Torfeh (Sidney); Resident Company Members James Clarke (Porter Milgrim) and Carolyn Michel (Helga); with Conservatory student Dane Dandridge (Clifford).

Deathtrap is a devilishly clever, suspense-filled thrill ride from a masterful mystery writer at the top of his deadly game. 'Sidney Bruhl' was once a celebrated playwright famous for his intricate thrillers. Now slightly past his prime, he enlists an ambitious younger writer, Clifford, to help him pen his deadliest tale yet. But as Clifford secretly begins writing his own version of Sidney's life story, and the quirky psychic next door begins to have real premonitions of murder, events quickly spiral out of control - who will survive?

Ira Levin also wrote Rosemary's Baby, Stepford Wives, The Boys From Brazil and A Kiss Before Dying. The original production of Deathtrap was a record-breaking hit on Broadway in 1978, running for more than 1,800 performances and receiving Tony nominations for best play and for actors Victor Garber and Marian Seldes. A 1982 film adaptation, directed by Sidney Lumet, starred Michael Caine, Christopher Reeve and Dyan Cannon.

New York critics were unanimous in their praise of Deathtrap.

"The intricately fashioned plot contortions brought gasps, the comedy lines drew delighted chortles..." -The Hollywood Reporter.

"Two-thirds a thriller and one-third a devilishly clever comedy...Suspend your disbelief and be delighted. Scream a little. It's good for you." -Cue Magazine.
"If you care to assassinate yourself with laughter, try DEATHTRAP." -Time Magazine.
