Theatre of NOTE continues its 2016 season with the west coast premiere of D DEB DEBBIE DEBORAH by Jerry Lieblich and directed by Doug Oliphant. D DEB DEBBIE DEBORAH will open on Thursday, August 11 and run through Saturday, September 17 at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N Cahuenga Blvd (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood.
Hailed as a 'dizzyingly clever new play' by the New York Times' Ben Brantley, D DEB DEBBIE DEBORAH tackles questions of self, one's place in the world, where we fit in, and who, exactly, takes authorship of his or her art. D DEB DEBBIE DEBORAH was developed in The Soho Rep's 2014 Writer/Director lab. It premiered in 2015 at Clubbed Thumb; as a part of their Summerworks season and was a critic's pick in both The New York Times and Time Out New York.
JERRY LIEBLICH (Playwright) is a Brooklyn-based playwright whose work has been developed at Playwrights Horizons, Clubbed Thumb, Soho Rep, Page 73, The Chocolate Factory, HERE Arts Center, Ensemble Studio Theater, and Ars Nova, among other theaters in New York and elsewhere. His plays include D Deb Debbie Deborah (Clubbed Thumb - New York Times and Time Out New York critic's pick), Nostalgia is a Mild Form of Grief (Playwrights Horizons, Page 73) and Eudaemonia ([not just] 3 New Plays). Jerry is also the writerly half of the devising team Tiny Little Band, whose work includes Ghost Stories (Cloud City - Time Out New York critic's pick). Their upcoming piece, Your Hair Looked Great, will premiere in February 2017 at Abrons Arts Center. Jerry is an Edward F. Albee Foundation Fellow, a UCROSS Resident, and an alum of the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab and Page 73's I-73 writers group. He has been a finalist for the Page 73 Playwriting Fellowship, the Princess Grace Award, Clubbed Thumb Biennial Commission, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, and the Heideman Award. DOUG OLIPHANT (Director) Doug Oliphant is an LA-based theatre director, movement director and fight choreographer and produces work through Drive Theatre. Directing credits include Eurydice (Ophelia's Jump Productions), SubUrbia (Pacific Resident Theatre), Love Life Alpha (Sci-Fest LA), Lazy Boy (The Blank Theatre's YPF), ELIZABETH HAMMOND-a eulogy, Rite of Seymour, 44 Plays for 44 Presidents (Drive Theatre), WTF? (Fierce Backbone), The Sound of Silence (OC-Centric New Play Fest), Bluenose (Mammoth Lakes Repertory Theatre), a rock album adaptation There is Truth, Love is Real (Hollywood Fringe), and Betty's Summer Vacation (Central Connecticut State University). Recently developed/directed new play readings with playwrights Steve Yockey, Nahal Navidar (EST/LA), James McLindon, Larry Mollin, Kirsa Rein (The Blank Theatre), brian james Polak (Moving Arts), Jacob Juntunen (Theatricum Botanicum), Larry Pontius (Skylight Theatre), Greg Machlin (SkyPilot Theatre), and Howard Ho, Cort Brinkerhoff, Annette Lee, Megan Breen (The Vagrancy). He's choreographed movement or fights at the Carrie Hamilton Theatre at Pasadena Playhouse, Odyssey Theatre, Skylight Theatre, CalArts, Chapman University, The Vagrancy, and LA Theatre Ensemble. At The Kennedy Center, Doug received the regional and national SDC Directing Fellowship Award for his achievements in the American College Theatre Festival. Doug received his BFA in Theatre at Central Connecticut State University, studied theatre at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's National Theater Institute and the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy (Russia). He also serves as an associate producer for Directors Lab West at the Pasadena Playhouse and is an associate member of SDC.
The cast of D DEB DEBBIE DEBORAH features: Kerr Lordygan, Greg Nussen, Alina Phelan, Jenny Soo, and Travis York.
D DEB DEBBIE DEBORAH features an impressive array of theatre designers, including: Joe Holbrook (Scenic Designer), Eb Madry (Lighting Designer), Mark McClain Wilson (Sound Designer), Amanda Maciel Antunas (Costume Designer), and Julie Oulette (Assistant Director). The production is stage managed by Stacy Benjamin.
D DEB DEBBIE DEBORAH will preview on Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6 at 8PM, and opens Thursday, August 11 at 8PM. The show runs through Saturday, September 17 at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N Cahuenga Blvd (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood. Understudy performances will be Wednesday, August 24 and Thursday August 25 at 8PM.
