This week, we travel to Brookville, New York, to visit The Department of Theatre at Long Island University!

Theater Students at the Department of Theater, Film, Dance, and Arts Management at LIU can work toward a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts is an academic degree designed to help you place theatre within the wider context of humanistic studies. The 129-credit curriculum covers the broad-based study of theatre history and literature, acting, dance, design, directing, playwriting, dramaturgy, management and technical production. Classes are small and faculty members provide a supportive environment for you to develop as an individual artist.

LIU Post theatre arts majors are active participants in the Post Theatre Company, which produces plays and musicals for the public and campus community. Students have access to a number of performance spaces to showcase their talents. Our beautiful suburban campus is only 50 minutes away from the theatre capital of the world - New York City. There are many opportunities to collaborate with professional playwrights, directors and producers.

The school also offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts with concentrations in Acting, Design and Production, Directing and Playwriting, Musical Arts, Arts Management, Dance Studies, and Film.

The Post Theatre Company (PTC) is the resident theatre company of the Theatre Arts Program in the Department of Theatre, Film, Dance and Arts Management. The PTC is a resident ensemble of actors, designers and managers that reflects the commitment of the program to theatre as a communicative language, to exploring the possibilities in the creation of new work, and to theatre as a vehicle for social understanding and change.

The company encourages students to explore the history and legacy of their art through performances of classical theatre pieces in the context of today's world. The PTC has received national acclaim for its performance of Caryl Churchill's "The Skriker" in 1997, performing at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. for the American College Theatre Festival and recent productions have been finalists at regional festivals.
