A celebration of the roots of cabaret-featuring German cabaret songs, French chansons and American standards by artists such as Gershwin, Porter, Weill, Brel, Piaf, the Boswell Sisters, Ellington and Coward.

"Kohler's songs, in both German and English, evoke the ambiance of a Weimar-era Berlin cabaret almost palpably. Current cabaret in Paris or Berlin can hardly be better than this. - Peter Leavy, Cabaret Scenes

ABOUT Karen Kohler: Born in Germany, raised in New York and a Texan for 15 years, Kohler has won all three major New York cabaret awards - Nightlife, Manhattan Association of Cabaret (MAC) and Backstage Bistro - and performed in cabarets, concert halls, consulates and embassies across the U.S. and in Europe, England and Australia. Known for bridging distinctly different sensibilities and songbooks, she is the founder of the award-winning Kabarett Kollektif, an ensemble devoted to European cabaret in its many forms, as well as the founding producer of Kabarett Fête, a widely praised and award-winning festival that debuted in 2007 and immersed audiences in a breathtaking habitat of international styles.

Kohler's commitment to cabaret extends to directing and teaching. Students have come from as far away as Australia for her private coaching and her teaching clients for lectures and master classes on the history of cabaret and cabaret performance have included the Austin Lyric Opera, Long Island University and Texas Christian University. In 2007, she and her husband Robert established the Peter E. Kohler Scholarship in Cabaret Performance at Long Island University, the first scholarship of its kind in the world. Kohler makes her home in NYC and Berlin.
