Next Audiences Summit 2009:
Oct. 15-16

Albert Paul Spaulding Jr. - Words and images fly during M.C. Albert Paul Spaulding Jr.'s incredible one-man rhythm and poetry (R.A.P.) show at the Indianapolis Artsgarden.

Ariadne auf Naxos, Richard Strauss - The Indianapolis Opera presents this enchanting comic opera that spoofs the Greek myth of Ariadne (King Minos' daughter) abandoned by Theseus (who slew the Minotaur).

Camelot - This celebrated musical is based on the King Arthur legend and his Knights of the Round Table.

IDADA First Friday Art Tour - Check out more than 25 galleries open on the first Friday of the month.

Cole Porter Radio Hour - Enjoy music from Cole Porter's beloved musicals Anything Goes and Kiss Me, Kate to unique, new arrangements of the InDiana Songwriter's greatest hits.

Be Indypendent - The Artful Lens - While you're out for First Friday, swing by the Stutz to check out the works of 10 local artists who use photography in the creation of their art.

Arts Council of Indianapolis
Four local theaters will give away a total of 275 free tickets on Oct. 1 for upcoming performances as part of a national promotion called "Free Night of Theater." Participating theaters include: Indiana Repertory Theatre, Storytelling Arts of Indiana, Shelby County Players and Indianapolis Civic Theatre. Tickets will be available for online reservation Oct. 1 at 11 a.m., and performances will take place between Oct. 8 and Oct. 30.

Managed locally by the Arts Council of Indianapolis, this is the third year of participation in Free Night of Theater by Indianapolis theaters

Indianapolis Artsgarden
Words and images fly during M.C. Albert Paul Spaulding Jr.'s incredible one-man rhythm and poetry (R.A.P.) show at the Indianapolis Artsgarden, Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m.

The nephew of Indianapolis sculptor John Spaulding and jazz great James Spaulding, Albert puts an inspirational stamp on hip hop that's sure to leave you asking for more!

Indianapolis Opera
Backstage havoc leading to onstage brilliance: the ultimate opera about opera. Strauss conjures a delightful two-part masterpiece, boasting some of the most delectable melodies to be found anywhere. This enchanting comic opera spoofs the Greek myth of Ariadne (King Minos' daughter) abandoned by Theseus (who slew the Minotaur) and pits characters from Italian commedia dell'arte against operatic stereotypes.

Featuring the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Caraher, this opera is performed in German with easy-to-read translations projected above the stage.

Indianapolis Civic Theatre
This celebrated musical and Tony Award winner by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, following their smash-hit My Fair Lady, is based on the King Arthur legend and his Knights of the Round Table as adapted from the T.H. White tetralogy novel The Once and Future King. Featuring a superb score, the story centers on the affair between Arthur's wife, Guinevere, and his great friend, Sir Lancelot, beautifully captured in numbers as If Ever I Would Leave You and I Loved You Once in Silence.

More than 25 galleries will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month. Monthly brochures with a map and list of participating galleries will be made available at the galleries, the Indianapolis Artsgarden Cultural Concierge and at www.idada.org.
 
Cole Porter Radio Hour

Encore Vocal Arts
Return to a time when the tight harmonies and sophisticated, witty lyrics sprang forth from a radio in every home. Featuring music from Cole Porter's beloved musicals Anything Goes and Kiss Me, Kate to unique, new arrangements of the InDiana Songwriter's greatest hits, this concert will be packed with well-known melodies and a stunning portrayal of his life by local popular actor Rob Johansen.
 
The Artful LensMisted Crossing
Oct. 2
Stutz Artists Association
Ten Stutz artists who use photography in the creation of their artwill be featured in the October show at StutzArtSpace, 212 W. 10th St., B110. The Artful Lens will include gelatin silver print photography, digital photography, photo transfers, historic processes, photo etchings and paintings.

Be sure to check out participating Be Indypendent artists: Andy Chen, JanettMarie, Karen Land and Ginny Taylor Rosner.

The opening reception takes place Oct. 2, 5-9 p.m., and the show runs Oct. 2-30.
