Birdland Jazz Club is pleased to announce their stirring line-up of incomparable talent for today, July 1 - July 7, 2013.

Birdland will kick-off their rousing week of programming with the following acts:

10th Anniversary Celebration of Jim Caruso's Cast Party

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night for the past 10 years. Jim Caruso and his cast of showbiz superstars will celebrate in style and reminisce everyone's favorite Cast Party moments. Whether you are an original Cast Party-er or new to the Great White Way, this will be a celebration to remember.

The Birdland Big Band

Every Friday the "BBB" roars into action playing a thrilling and original mix of jazz, funk, Brazilian, Latin and world music for sold-out audiences. Featured weekly guest artists drop-in from television bands (David Letterman, Saturday Night Live) and pop music touring bands (Rob Thomas, Rod Stewart). Come see for yourself why Time Out New York called the BBB, "a completely unique experience... there isn't another band like this anywhere," and yelp.com proclaims, "if you hear one band in NYC make sure this is it... and prepare to be blown away!"

Whether you've heard guitarist Dave Stryker fronting his own group (with 23 CD's as a leader to date), or as a featured sideman with Stanley Turrentine, Jack McDuff, and many others, you know why Gary Giddins in the Village Voice calls him "one of the most distinctive guitarists to come along in recent years." He was voted one of the Top Ten Guitarists in the 2001 Downbeat Readers poll, and a Rising Star for the last 5 years in the Downbeat Critics Poll. His approach combining burning jazz and soulful blues feeling is communicating to new fans wherever he plays.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is thrilled to announce the return of 2013 Tony nominee Stephanie J. Block, who will be performing two very special concerts on the historic stage. Stephanie J. Block has established herself as one of the most relevant and versatile voices in contemporary musical theatre. She received both a Drama Desk and TONY nomination for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Alice Nutting/Edwin Drood in The Roundabout Theatre Company's production of The Mystery Of Edwin Drood. Other Broadway credits include Reno Sweeney in the 2011 Tony Award winning revival of Anything Goes and Judy Bernly (Drama Desk nom.) in 9 To 5: The Musical. She originated the roles of Grace O'Malley in The Pirate Queen and Liza Minnelli in The Boy From Oz (opposite Hugh Jackman). Ms. Block is best known for her portrayal as Elphaba in the Broadway production and first national tour of Wicked. Stephanie is most excited about her upcoming project, co-starring with Will Chase in Second Stage Theater's production of Little Miss Sunshine.

July 7 (Sunday) at 9PM & 11PM
Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte. After leading his late father's orchestra for many years, Arturo formed his own groups, from trio through orchestra, in order to explore his and other compositions in the panoply of Afro Latin music.
