Bobby Steggert, Jay Armstrong Johnson and More to Join Ryan Scott Oliver at Joe's Pub, 1/21

On Jan. 21, 2013 at 7:00pm and 9:30pm, the work of award-winning composer-lyricist Ryan Scott Oliver (35MM: A Musical Exhibition) returns to Joe's Pub performed by special guests.

With more stars to be announced, the evening currently features Alex Brightman (Wicked), Ben Crawford (Shrek), Jay Armstrong Johnson (Hands on a Hardbody), Julia Mattison (Godspell),
Bobby Steggert (Ragtime), Jason Michael Snow (The Book of Mormon), Brian Charles Rooney (Threepenny Opera).

Rated RSO is a "theatrical concert" collecting songs from Oliver's musicals while the audience experiences the scope of each musical's story through projected context. Previously seen at Joe's Pub, NYMF and in Los Angeles, audiences can expect to hear new work from Jasper in Deadland, 35MM, and The Frog Prince Continued, as well as old favorites from Darling and Mrs. Sharp.

Will Van Dyke music directs with Matt Hinkley (guitar), Eric Day (bass), Allison Seidner (cello), Joel Waggoner (violin), Jeremy Yaddaw (drums) in the band, Kristina Vnook stage manages and KJ Hardy will design lights; Travis Greisler directs.

Ryan Scott Oliver was featured earlier this year as one of Playbill's "Contemporary Musical Theatre Songwriters You Should Know." He is a 2009 Jonathan Larson Grant Recipient, 2008 Rodgers Award Winner, 2011 Lortel Award Nominee, a 2007 Dramatists Guild Fellow, and most recently, the recipient of residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Weston Playhouse, and Cap 21 for We Foxes, a commission by Broadway Across America. Music and lyrics for 35mm: A Musical Exhibition (original cast recording avail. on Ghostlight Records), Darling (featured on NBC's The Apprentice), Mrs. Sharp (Playwrights Horizons July 2009 starring Jane Krakowski, dir. by Michael Greif), and the commissions Jasper in Deadland and The Frog Prince Continued; a collection of his work, Rated RSO, played the Kennedy Center, Joe's Pub, New York Musical Theatre Festival; Off-Broadway and elsewhere: Disney Theatricals commission, TheatreWorksUSA's We the People, Rosie O'Donnell's Theater Kids, and cabarets worldwide.
